I work with AEDP to help clients understand the initial protective measures they use to avoid shame, anxiety or guilt, so that they can begin to access deeper core emotions, and accept that these emotions are vital for a full, free life.
Today, more than ever, life is full of challenges and stressors that exacerbate feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, fear, and dismay. Working together we can look at these overwhelming emotions and navigate to a place of peace and personal strength. One of the main benefits of therapy is to know that one is not alone, that one is seen, known, and valued.

I enjoy working with kids who are stressed out, angry, anxious or worried and are having difficulty managing it to teach them ways to handle their feelings.
Every day, we hear that our children are struggling. They’re overwhelmed by worry, sadness, anger, and stress. We see them tumble and spiral down a path of unhealthy choices and disconnection from their families. Parents become paralyzed by the fear of doing something wrong. They’re afraid of causing another door-slamming anger outburst but are tormented by the potential consequences of not doing anything at all. They’re left confused by how upset their teens get when their Snapstreaks get interrupted or a round of Fortnite is lost.

Life is a struggle. While we all have had joys to celebrate and call our own, no one escapes the slings and arrows of life's misfortunes. I believe we always respond to those misfortunes in ways we believe is best for us at the time. Sometimes we have clarity. We can proceed in a way that validates who we are and what's in our best interest. Other times, we may not know what to do or act in a way that does not turn out as well. We suffer as our past ways of handling this situation no longer fits to meet our present needs.

You’re not sure when everything became so complicated. Even the things you used to enjoy have turned into overwhelming obstacles. You see the people around you being productive, socializing, and making progress in their lives. Meanwhile, you feel stuck in place, like the world is passing you by. The strategies that you’ve used in the past to help you through just aren’t working anymore. You want so desperately to regain some control of your life. But you just don’t know how. If only there was a way forward. It all feels so hopeless.

Clients find me when going through periods of reinvention, transition or when they are craving an authentic life. They often are ready to break through the myth of perfection to find their unique voice. I believe the therapeutic process is about losing what is no longer needed rather than changing perceived flaws. I work with clients who feel unsettled and anxious, yet crave peace, & are willing to go on a truth seeking mission to find it. My style is direct, lively & collaborative; assisting those who want to reclaim themselves and live from their heart.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
