My clients indicate they are most satisfied with my ability to listen deeply, to help them articulate their experience, to provide a sense of safety, and provide strategies for real progress. Defining characteristics of my work are my many years of experience, over 35 years in practice, and the benefits of a holistic approach incorporating physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. I utilize cognitive and behavioral techniques. I often integrate the perspectives of Carl Jung. I am trained in EMDR. I am certified as a yoga and meditation instructor, and incorporate the benefits of these practices in my work.

Life can be a struggle because of our internal and interpersonal difficulties. It can also feel daunting to reach out to another for help. The courage it takes to reach out is already the change process in motion in your life. My approach focuses not simply on the shame, guilt, anxieties, doubt and traumas that bring you to psychotherapy, but what is right and where is the glimmer of change in your struggles and traumas. I address traumatic experience, grief, addiction, emotional disturbances, life adjustments, and interpersonal stressors. I specialize in addiction recovery, PTSD and emotional disturbances, and personal growth.

In session, we will use principles from Transpersonal Psychology, meditation + mindfulness, somatic practices, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I am a holistic trauma-informed therapist, and I work to help you move from overwhelm and anxiety to navigating life with confidence, ease, and joy. My areas of focus include: anxiety, trauma, ADHD, OCD, and addiction. I help you see your innate wisdom so that you can create goals, remember dreams, and find a deep, abiding sense of contentment within yourself. Many clients I work with were told they were "too sensitive" or "overdramatic" as a child. I am skilled at guiding you reconnect with younger parts of yourself and shift unhelpful core beliefs. I am licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

It’s not just that you don’t rock the boat, it’s that you steady the boat while it's being rocked. And you are nothing if not determined. So, why that unsettled buzz & flutter in bed? You know... the combo of mild nausea and critical thoughts on loop while sleep escapes you? The truth is, steadying the boat gives you a perception of control. A sense that everything will be okay if you can just keep up the façade of okay. It's familiar, comfortable. But these days the exhaustion is bone deep. At this point you have tried everything from meditation to medication to basic talk therapy filled with homework and more pressure to preform.

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
