While my training is primarily psychodynamic, I use and work with a variety of modalities, depending upon the individual needs of my clients.
Do you find yourself repeating the same behaviors over and over again, hoping for a different outcome? This is a pattern that can be changed, and as a therapist with over 30 years of experience, I can help you to make these changes. By understanding and working through how one's early experiences influence one’s current behaviors, lasting changes can be made. Concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and relationship issues are among the areas I treat. I believe in the importance of developing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment in which we can explore your feelings.

I specialize in evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Just as you don't click with every person you meet in the world, you won't mesh with every therapist, and I want to make sure you have a good experience in therapy! As a licensed psychotherapist, I have devoted my career to guiding individuals from diverse backgrounds through the process of healing from trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief/loss. With a substantial background in law enforcement, I bring a unique perspective to my practice, having worked extensively with individuals dealing with substance use, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and childhood trauma. I will challenge you during the therapeutic process! Are you ready?

My approach is an integrative blend of the theoretical framework of internal family systems, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and human values.
I believe that clients first need to experience a sense of trust and security before sharing can evolve into the dynamic process which enables the best opportunity for a positive change. Working with me in a therapeutic process feels like having a peaceful dialogue with someone who is empathic, understanding, and nonjudgmental. I delicately approach clients’ suffering while striving to understand the language of suffering they use to express their psychological pain.

Clinically I am trained in Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Jungian, and Transpersonal psychotherapies.
I am more interested in what you are experiencing than anything I could tell you about myself. Generally, individuals come to therapy because they have reached a personal impasse and would like an outside perspective.

I'm a psychodynamic psychologist who uses an integrative approach to work within the complexities of life.
Oftentimes we find ourselves struggling to break from long-standing patterns that force us to be rigid in the ways we relate to the world around us and the world within in us. These patterns, which seek consistent expression in our daily lives inhibit us from experiencing true presence during the most precious moments of our existence while hindering our pursuit of success. I work with individuals, couples, and families who seek to free themselves from these damaging patterns so that a more flexible, authentic way of relating to the world can emerge.

In our day-to-day lives, it can be difficult to notice changes in our mood, behavior, or relationships, and how that shift may be affecting our overall well-being. These changes can be caused by various stressors in our lives. As a therapist, I bring a genuine sense of compassion for the difficulties my clients face, placing great emphasis on building meaningful relationships, transparency, and authenticity. My integrated approach to care utilizes aspects of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness techniques to work toward a patient-centered conceptualization of health.

I tend to be eclectic in my theoretical orientation, utilizing psychodynamic as well as empirically-based best practices and solution-focused approaches within the context of a warm and caring relationship.
I appreciate the time you have taken to look up my profile, as the process of finding a therapist can be daunting. But it is well worth the effort when you find one with whom you can work collaboratively in your journey of growth and healing.

Clients seeking treatment from me find that their symptoms relate to behavior addiction, cultural identity, developmental issues, family dynamic issues, and cognitive/affective limitations. Typically, at the epicenter of these issues is regarding information processes within interpersonal dynamics online and offline. Dependent on the frequency, intensity and duration of individual symptoms, my clients find strength within cognitive-behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, mindfulness-based practices, and psychodynamic based treatment plans.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
