People have been shaped and molded by their past experiences, both good and bad. Often, people feel drawn to focus on the bad experiences, often leading to pain and struggles of many kinds. To many, pain and struggle feels permanent. Many excuse these struggles as “just part of life”. When we excuse these struggles and they become “just part of life” we tend to lose hope. When one is ready to address their struggles they can overcome what they thought was permanent.

As we travel through this journey of life, getting past challenges can be a difficult process. At times, we may need the guidance and support of a skilled professional. I have over 10 years of experience providing clinical counseling in mental health facilities, school settings, and private practice. Currently, I provide teletherapy via a HIPAA compliant platform to help clients take the steps to better manage life’s challenges. When clients learn to effectively manage persistent challenges – they understand better…they feel better…they perform better.

My work with families includes assessment, trauma and parent management training and counseling.
Since childhood, I've had a strong desire to help people. That desire grew to helping people identify what they need to create a fulfilling and enriching life through self discovery and acceptance. As a licensed therapist in Maryland and D.C., certified infant and early childhood mental health provider for over 11 years, I understand that in creating the life you want, sometimes, healing and restoration must take place. Helping people acknowledge and understand the integral parts of themselves through acceptance, self love and security in who they are is the focus of my practice and at the core of the work we will do together.

I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors experiencing depression, anxiety, and issues related to parenting, trauma, technology/social media use, peer conflict, intimate partner violence/conflict, and major life transitions (eg. first-time parenting, leaving for college, returning to work, divorce, empty nest). I created and taught a graduate-level course at Johns Hopkins on social media's effect on mental health. My clinical training focused on survivors and offenders of sexual and domestic violence. I was awarded a fellowship for my work with teen moms on parenting, life skills, and college readiness.

I started 911 Help For Parents & Relationships after many years of working with children, adolescents, and families. I discovered that not only were the children struggling, but so were their parents. I sought out more training to develop a specialty in Parenting Coaching, and later Relationship Coaching. In addition, I now have a special expertise and interest in Infidelity Recovery as many of the individuals, families, and couples I've worked with have been affected by this complex and little-understood issue.

Parenting is difficult.
Are you a mom, working a demanding job, trying to build a successful career or a successful business? You are constantly overstimulated trying to divide your attention between children and their needs and reply to emails. Are you doubting your decision or the ability to "have it all"? Are you battling mom/wife guilt, lacking or not prioritizing self care, and harboring a little resentment? I get it and I can help. I work with Career driven caregivers, experiencing depression and anxiety, due to an imbalance between work and parenting/cargiving.

I have personally encountered the joys and challenges of relationships, marriage, and parenting.
Is your partner a narcissist? Are you wondering if you can survive this impasse? Are you just bored or unhappy in your marriage or relationship? Do you feel like there’s no emotional connection? Is your marriage in need of repair or reviving, and in need of some sparks to your intimate life? Are you trying to decide if you should stay in your marriage or get a divorce? Are you feeling anxious and overwhelmed? Do you struggle with putting your needs first? Is your ADHD making life difficult to manage and causing havoc in your professional life and relationships? Is your partner’s OCD making you feel crazy?

This isn't what you expected and you just want to feel better. You're constantly thinking "what if...". You find yourself feeling guilty, questioning if you are a "good mom." It feels impossible to balance everything, and you're feeling like a stranger to yourself. I hear you. Whether you are a soon-to-be parent, a new parent, a new-again parent, a hopeful parent, a grieving parent, or a stressed parent navigating any life stage - you are not alone. The journey to (and through) parenthood is a transformative experience - one that reminds us that it really does take a village!

I help stressed and overwhelmed professionals who look like they have it all together on the outside but may have a few things bothering them on the inside. You might be the person who everyone goes to for support and advice, but when you share your concerns, it's not taken as seriously by your family or friends. This may leave you feeling anxious, frustrated, depressed, and isolated despite crushing it at work, as a parent, or when leading at church. Maybe you are a spouse/partner, parent, healthcare provider, or pastor/clergy who has current or past stressors that are weighing you down or leaving you feeling out of sorts.

Life happens to all of us and we usually deal with it, but sometimes things get challenging and we cannot go it alone - we need "someone" to walk with us. So, whether you are a parent trying to manage your child’s behavior or support your child in school; an individual seeking personal development or dealing with mental illness; or a family going through transition, I want to be your "someone".

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
