My ideal client is the teen or adult that has had significant distress from emotional trauma, anxiety, mood and attentional disorders. Most clients have previously tried many types of therapies, including drug therapies, but continue to struggle. By addressing brain function with neurofeedback in addition to therapy, I have had over 90% success helping my clients to overcome or manage their emotional/mental health challenges.

I am an integrative psychotherapist who grounds my practice in trauma-informed, narrative, and critical consciousness frameworks. I have experience and training in mindfulness, trauma-focused CBT, child and adolescent trauma, IFS, and EMDR therapy. I have also completed population-specific trainings relating to gender, sexuality, racism and oppression.  I seek to challenge dominant narratives which negatively impact the ways people come to see themselves, understanding that many mental health challenges are deeply tied to the social, environmental, and political contexts in which they occur.

Relationships. We never really explicitly learn how to "do" this whole relationship thing, at least not in school. Are there rules for relationships? How about guidelines to help guide us? We know about general advice like when your aunt sits you down at the family reunion reminding you to just "be yourself," but how helpful are these generalities? If you're baffled, confused, frustrated, or simply wish you had a better relationship, you're not alone. In fact, you're part of the majority. And based on neuroscience, attachment theory, and ancient wisdom, you can improve and experience a better relationship.

I continue to derive immense satisfaction from becoming a psychologist and exploring many paths and points of view about the nature of "reality", personally in my own work on myself and with others in psychotherapy (from physical/behavioral/external levels to non-physical/subjective/internal levels). People who have participated in psychotherapy with me often describe deriving value from increased awareness, insight and understanding about their past and present circumstances, both internal and external. These results have led to resolving external behavioral issues and increasing their level of internal satisfaction about their life experiences.

Are unresolved feelings of trauma, pain, or loss clouding your days and nights? If you find yourself haunted by past experiences, doubting your worth, or losing sight of your dreams, you're not alone. Complex trauma or PTSD often manifests as long-term depression, anxiety, challenges in relationships, difficulty concentrating, and increased sensitivity. It's a heavy burden to carry, but there's hope. With the right support, you can find your way back to joy and reclaim your hope for the future.

One of the most meaningful things you can do is to learn to treat yourself with kindness and compassion. It may seem simple, but bad relationships, traumatic experiences, and difficult life transitions have a way of changing how we think and feel about ourselves - usually for the worse. We too often find ourselves lost in the emotional pain, feeling unfulfilled in our lives and gradually losing hope that things can get better. But it doesn’t have to be that way! I want to help you feel connected with yourself again. To create those healthy boundaries. To feel unburdened from the depression/anxiety/anger. To heal. To grow.

I am a certified holistic yoga counselor. I approach my sessions through body awareness, meditation, mindfulness, and journaling. The body is a powerful, organic machine that comes with its own processes to heal the body, mind, and soul. I want my clients to reconnect with those bonds to re-establish stability of the internal and external workings of the self, utilizing eastern and western philosophies. Principles I use in sessions are Ayurveda, Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga (eastern philosophy); Logotherapy, Psychodynamic therapy, and Humanistic Psychology (western philosophy).

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
