Family is the core of our identity & it's where we often face our greatest challenges. Ranging from lack of connection, support, understanding, being understood, struggling to communicate our thoughts, feelings, wants/needs. Lack of respect & value. Lets admit it , for some of us our families are unhealthy. unloyal. broken. "toxic". Whether there actions are intentional or unintentional, they cause deep animosity & we don't know how to fix it. So you say forget um' accepting that they aren't going to change, that this is what your life is going to be. So you found a gaurded way to deal with this percieved reality & you stand on it.

We strive to be perfect, feel validated in a world where expressing this "softer" side of you makes you less than. Where society emphasizes self sacrifce as heroic, self care seems to be selfish in a bad way. The pressures to walk/talk like "them".The money, violence, sex, drugs, disloyalty heavy in social media reels; has blurred reality for many. Now increased pressure in our life including work/life balance, family issues, relationships, past trauma, low self-esteem, etc. leading us to develop symptoms of depression, anxiety. Who are you oustide of the fad? What do you want for you? Is there ANYBODY else who wants their own path?

My experiences have varied over the years allowing me to understand many areas of focus. I've worked with children, adults and couples. I've trained to be a Life/corporate coach and I am also extensively trained in alternative dispute resolution. I work part time as a court approved mediator helping separating couples with their custody needs. I practice a here and now approach with the use of Brief Solution Focused techniques.

Sometimes, one of the most difficult things for you to do is to find purpose and value in your life when there are so many demands that may pull you in the other direction. In today's world, there is so much involved in keeping everything balanced in a way that meets your needs as well as keeping focused on the things that you value most. Living a valued life is important, but often times it is easy to get side-tracked. Like that saying from John Lennon, "Life happens while you're busy making other plans," we can lose clarity in what means the most to us and we can often end up feeling lost and unsure of how to get back on track.

I approach treatment from a worldview that believes individuals are unique and gifted, created with meaning and purpose, and made to have a relationship with God and others. Because of brokenness in ourselves and in the world, we experience conflict and struggle, often severe enough to impact our ability to function each day and find joy in living. When we are able to understand our experiences in context of what is true, healing begins.

(Currently Full but please check back). I am so grateful you chose to continue your journey towards healing. I say continue rather than begin because I believe we all have innate strengths towards inner healing. You reading this right here, right now, demonstrates to yourself that you have internal strength, motivation, and realization that you deserve a meaningful and joyful life. I chose this career because I have learned to appreciate how beautiful life can be and I want to help others see that as well. Sometimes we just need the assistance of a compassionate 3rd party to help us view life through a lens we haven’t yet before.

In today's world, there is little time for reflection, for nurturing relationships, mentoring our children, or caring for our elderly parents. We often need a refuge from the confusion we experience in our daily lives, a time to clarify what's important and what's not important, as well as a safe place to begin making changes. I offer psychotherapeutic services based on the interrelation of body, mind, and emotion. Together, we will endeavor to examine our feelings and link them to words, connecting personal history with current life events and relationships.

Everyone, including you (and your partner), deserves a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood. With a collaborative approach, I seek to create that safe environment where individuals and couples can explore and transform their stories, finding healing and integration. Working from an attachment theory lens, I provide strategic, practical, and holistic support while facilitating a deeper journey inward that gets to the core issues. If you're feeling anxious, depressed, stuck, or just that life isn't what you think it should be, let's talk. I'm a good listener, I've had great training, and together, we can get you from where you are to where you'd like to be. I use a variety of approaches, depending on the needs of my clients, and we will determine an agreed upon treatment plan so that you know what the goals are. Although it sometimes gets worse before it gets better, it always gets better. Isn't that assurance worth taking the first step? Give me a call.

I have a wide range in my approach to treatment, but my foundation is deeply grounded in person-centered therapy. I want you to be comfortable being your authentic self, whoever that may be. Clients often gain more awareness and self-acceptance in our work together. A session might look like us exploring the past (but not getting stuck there), understanding what is going on in the present moment (identifying your needs), and how to move forward into the future (by creating meaningful and realistic goals).

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. The EAP for the U.S. Armed Forces is Military OneSource. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
