In working with families and individuals, I use both traditional psychotherapies such as positive psychology, psychodynamic techniques, and cognitive and behavioral therapies. In addition, I am trained in mind/body techniques such as EMDR and hypnosis. I also believe in the healing connections we make with nature and will often use pet therapy in assisting my clients to reach their goals.

Completed each of the Gottman Method Couples Therapy trainings, as well as 10 years of advanced psychodynamic psychotherapy training.
I’m an experienced psychotherapist committed to helping individuals and couples explore problematic emotions and behavior patterns. I provide a space to think out loud and develop new ways of thinking and behaving. Depression, anxiety, loss, trauma and relationship issues are concerns I regularly discuss in session. Life is complicated. Recognizing the unique relationship in each individual therapeutic process is an important component of my work.

I take an integrative approach to therapy and tailor interventions to match your needs, using modern psychodynamic approaches and ACT as my foundation.
I greatly value the opportunity to empower people in their pursuit of well being. You may have a specific concern or a general sense that you wish to move through life differently. I strive to incorporate your values, identities, and unique life circumstances into therapy, working with you as a whole person rather than as a collection of symptoms. I believe that stress and pain are unavoidable parts of life, and that reactions to these can add to distress. In developing and working towards goals together, I consider the quality of our relationship to be a powerful source of healing.

I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective, which means working together in a way that allows us to gain insight into the underlying factors that may be at the root of some of your struggles.
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons and at various times throughout their life. The decision to see a therapist may be centered around a recent crisis that is causing emotional stress, a desire to address long-standing problems in living or simply a wish to make a change in one’s life. Whatever the reason, I see psychotherapy as an opportunity for you to get to know yourself (and those around you) better and work towards leading a more meaningful life.

You have suffered all your life. You feel restricted by people's expectations and others' demand. You now want to know, ‘What is the work that I must do to be free.’ You have come to the right place and it’s the right time for you to receive the support that you need. You can break your need for validation and approval. You can stop being limited by depression, anxiety, lack of focus and lack of emotional control.

My goal as a therapist is to help you reach a deeper understanding of your struggles and to help create awareness in your life. My belief is once these strengths are recognized and practiced, we can begin working towards our greater potential and begin the healing process or better management of our daily life. I believe people are resilient and have the capacity to heal, if we choose to. I teach practical skills and provide tools that you, you and your partner, child(ren), and family can use every day.

I'm dedicated to guiding young individuals towards emotional well-being and empowerment. Drawing from years of specialized experience, I specialize in addressing a wide spectrum of obstacles, including anxiety, ADHD, depression, sexual abuse, behavioral issues and family conflict. My practice revolves around the principles of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Motivational Interviewing, two effective modalities. CBT aids in reshaping thoughts and behaviors, while Motivational Interviewing fosters intrinsic motivation for positive change. During our sessions, I prioritize empathy and create a nurturing space for open dialogues.

I specialize in psychodynamic processes and utilizing CBT techniques to alter the way clients think, feel, and behave.
My ideal client is motivated for therapy. Their issues can include spiritual confusion, perinatal struggles, relationship concerns, family conflict, boundary needs, and/or a desire for greater self-awareness. They desire true change, which comes with a combination of empathy, education, and constructive feedback, if necessary, from the clinician.

Over my forty-five year career I have worked with many different people of every race, age, and problem type. I listen with a supportive, trained ear, and help my clients find the best coping strategies that will enable them to be happier. Even if only one person is in my office, I see that person as part of their family system, and help them make positive changes that will increase good feelings and reduce conflict. Nearly everyone goes through a rough period in their life when psychotherapy could be helpful for getting back on track. Recently I completed a two day course to become a Certified Trauma therapist.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
