I work primarily within a contemporary psychodynamic framework while also using cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies.
Hello and Welcome! Relationships are key to understanding who we are. From birth to the present, our past relationships affect our current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. At some point in life, most of us encounter personal roadblocks that create stress and unhappiness, overwhelm our coping mechanisms and undermine growth. Psychotherapy is a resource to help people heal, learn new skills, and develop greater self-awareness and strength. I offer clinical expertise to provide guidance, new perspectives, and to raise awareness of root issues that may be behind current problems. Together we will address these problems and underlying dynamics.

I have had training in Narrative Therapy as well as Functional Family Therapy; as a DBT-Certified therapist, I help clients balance patterns of acceptance and change, reducing problematic behaviors and establishing new behaviors to manage stressors.
I establish a therapeutic relationship where clients learn to communicate and advocate for themselves in relationships with others. I teach clients skills to increase self-awareness and expand ways of responding to chronic stressors. These skills fall under the following themes: emotional regulation, distress management, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. In my work with clients, I reinforce choices that are connected to clients' value systems in order to stay motivated and working toward their personal goals.

Along with dialectical behavioral therapy ( DBT) skills training, these areas help my clients cultivate self knowledge and foster lasting change towards healthy living and relationships.
This one life is yours. Unexpected change, loss, suffering and even growth can destabilize and disorient. Participating in psychotherapy can provide valuable relief, perspective, and healing. Even more, psychotherapy offers the opportunity to feel wholly in control of your life and an active participant in your relationships.

I chose a career in therapy driven by a profound desire to help others, an interest in human psychology, and a keen awareness of the stigmatization surrounding mental health challenges. Witnessing firsthand how people often suffer in silence due to societal misconceptions about mental health, I felt a strong calling to not only provide direct support but also to contribute to changing these harmful perceptions. My journey into therapy is not just about understanding the mind, but about using that knowledge to foster a more compassionate and informed society where mental well-being is prioritized and openly discussed.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
