Everyone has strengths and therapy can be utilized as a tool to further develop those strengths in addition to building new strengths. My goal is to provide a safe space for exploring feelings, resolving issues, personal growth, and rebuilding relationships. Therapy is a partnership we will enter in together to best support your individual or family needs. The ideal client is one who is ready to take the first step in this partnership with an open mind and heart. It is not an easy task, but the rewards of focusing on your personal journey and growth are great.

Many individuals are living life haunted by past trauma or experiencing interpersonal relationship breakdowns. This can cause anxiety, depression, and negative self talk. It is important to process the emotions that derive from these experiences in order to move forward and experience healthy, positive, and meaningful relationships. It does take work and will not always be easy but the outcome from our sessions will be worth all the effort. It’s not who you are that holds you back. It’s who you think you’re not. Together we can work to toss out the thoughts that hold you back.

You have strengths. Yes, you do. Maybe ones that you don't even know you have. Together we can uncover those strengths and begin exploring how they can move your life forward in your career, relationships, parenting, and personal growth. We will focus on what is right with you and how you can expand that out to greater circles in your life. Having a coach, cheerleader, and calming support can make all the difference in overcoming longstanding and/or seemingly overwhelming obstacles. One of our clinicians can be that person for you.

My work begins with taking the time to understand each, unique individual. This collaborative, compassionate yet thought provoking process is called "the talking cure," and it can be life changing. I am a curious listener, and through our weekly conversations you will learn to reflect on what you are experiencing differently - this is why psychotherapy works. I am always sure to provide a safe and respectful environment in order to change maladaptive patterns of thinking, behaving or feeling that stem from past experiences and underlie presenting symptoms, while working on practical solutions to immediate problems.

Today is a good day. You have taken the first step to a better life by reaching out, and I am happy to be considered as your therapist. I believe caring for our mental health is equally important as caring for our physical health. Let's work through the challenges that might seem too big to overcome. Our goal-driven conversations will provide new insight and skills for lifting the mood and enhancing relationships. Together, we will tear down the walls that are holding you back from emotional wellness so you might thrive and not simply survive.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
