I use a trauma-informed approach and have training in several therapeutic models including acceptance and commitment therapy, solution focused therapy, attachment-based therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
With the demands life makes on us, sometimes it becomes too much. The same way we go to the doctor for physical ailments, sometimes we need assistance managing our mental and emotional wellbeing. Do you need support as you balance the many roles you have in your life? Have you noticed your physical health being impacted by the stress? Maybe you've had huge milestones or life events happen and are having a hard time adjusting? Or maybe you've been hearing buzz phrases like 'self care' and are wondering what that looks like beyond home spa days?

We will work together utilizing narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, trauma focused therapy or mindfulness practices to unlock your full potential.
The journey you are on is far greater than the season you are walking through. Adjusting to life in a post pandemic world has left many learning to cope with the unknown; unknown stress, unknown career paths, unknown relationships, unknown trauma, unknown sense of self. Sometimes these unknowns cause increased anxiety, depressive states, low self esteem, stress in relationships and loss of direction. You are capable of embracing your unknowns to build your new life, even if it appears to be far different than you planned. You have the power. We just need to grow it.

I mainly employ cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and motivational interviewing techniques from a trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive perspective.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or unsure? Does your child seem to be worrying more than usual or struggling with school? Are you and your partner having trouble communicating? Facing challenges with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, school, work or home can feel like an incredibly lonely struggle. But you are not alone. I know that deciding to seek therapy for yourself, your child or your family takes tremendous courage. I believe taking that step is a sign of strength and hope.

I draw on various tools, including motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy.
You are so brave for stepping up to the plate to improve your life; to attain greater balance, achieve your goals, enhance your self-assurance, learn your strengths, and to feel empowered to live fully! I love working with adults who struggle with trying to manage it all. Between work, parenting, relationships, socializing with friends, and maintaining a meaningful spiritual life, many adults are just plain exhausted. You desire to feel greater peace with it all and to start enjoying life again. I see you and I hear you, and I cannot wait for us to work together so you can discover your needs and finally meet your goals.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
