I’m glad that we’ve found each other. My name is Arianne and I've been partnering with individuals for 12 years, navigating the challenges, celebrating the victories, and working towards the life each person hopes for themselves. When life feels like it is too much to handle, you might know what you need to do logically to make things better, but actually starting can feel scary. When you're stuck in a loop of negative thoughts and bad habits, it's hard to shake off the guilt and move forward. You understand your struggles and story better than anyone else and I'm here to work alongside you to restore your calm.

Relationships. We never really explicitly learn how to "do" this whole relationship thing, at least not in school. Are there rules for relationships? How about guidelines to help guide us? We know about general advice like when your aunt sits you down at the family reunion reminding you to just "be yourself," but how helpful are these generalities? If you're baffled, confused, frustrated, or simply wish you had a better relationship, you're not alone. In fact, you're part of the majority. And based on neuroscience, attachment theory, and ancient wisdom, you can improve and experience a better relationship.

In working with families and individuals, I use both traditional psychotherapies such as positive psychology, psychodynamic techniques, and cognitive and behavioral therapies. In addition, I am trained in mind/body techniques such as EMDR and hypnosis. I also believe in the healing connections we make with nature and will often use pet therapy in assisting my clients to reach their goals.

What keeps me growing as a professional and drives me to do what I do, are the individuals and families that I have the privilege to work with everyday. There are times in all of our lives when we need to reach out for support and encouragement and to know that we are not alone. I have extensive experience in the field of trauma, in particular with survivors of childhood sexual abuse, child abuse, and child neglect. When working with this population, I have treated issues ranging from but not limited to PTSD, depression, anxiety, attachment, and anger.

I'll admit it - I have a personal agenda in each of my sessions! I want preteens and teens to learn how to be assertive, make better decisions and form healthy boundaries so that they can improve their self-esteem and surround themselves with better friends. I want clients to finally ditch that job or relationship that isn't a good fit. I'm the right therapist if you or your preteen/teen want to improve self-worth & overcome anxiety or depressive symptoms. If you're looking for a cheerleader in your corner to help you get rid of habits or thinking patterns that lead you to feel stuck and helpless - I'm the therapist for you.

Children, adolescents and young adults sometimes experience stress related to school, activities, challenges at home, or periods of transition. These stressors may lead to mood swings, changes in behavior and difficulty expressing emotions and thoughts. My role as a therapist is to help kids and young adults cope with stress and learn strategies to maintain an emotionally balanced life. I provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and then work with individuals and families to develop an individualized treatment plan that draws from the client's existing strengths. I utilize evidence-based treatment primarily drawing from CBT.

You're not sure when it happened, but you don't recognize the child sitting in front of you or the person looking back at you in the mirror. You want to feel happier, healthier, and more confident, but nothing seems to work. You feel stuck in the past, experiencing difficulties with enjoying the present, causing the future to feel hopeless. You feel so overwhelmed that you can't stop worrying and focus on work/school. You wish you could find the right words to let others know how you're feeling and the struggles you're facing. You just want to feel empowered to ask for help when you need it, hoping you don't have to do this alone.

Has there been a time in your life when you just needed somebody to listen? Someone who wouldn't judge or make you feel that you're wrong? Someone who could help you see a way through a problem? None of us are immune to problems in our lives. Every one of us carries wounds. It's part of the package called Life. Yet how we think about our problems affects how we experience our problems. I would be honored to work with you as you manage some of the ups and downs you experience on Life's great journey.

Solution Focused Brief (SFBT) Therapists

How does solution-focused therapy work?

The treatment works by helping a client notice which behaviors and thoughts have positive results on their lives and building a plan around how to maximise these strengths. Practitioners of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) believe that individuals already have the experience, wisdom, and resilience to create change in their lives, but may need a guide to help them realise which changes to make and how to make them.

Is solution-focused brief therapy evidence-based?

Yes. Solution-focused brief therapy has been extensively studied, and researchers find strong evidence that it’s an effective treatment for many behavioral and psychological concerns. This may be due to the uplifting nature and practicality of the treatment, which allows patients to employ strategies to reach their goals that are incremental and achievable.

How long does solution-focused brief therapy last?

Solution-focused brief therapy, as the name implies, is brief. The timeline may vary from person to person, given the challenges they face and their situation in life, but treatment is typically complete within four to eight sessions. This therapy type is a pragmatic one: it’s concerned more with “how” problems can be addressed and improved than getting to the root of “why” they exist in the first place.

Is solution-focused brief therapy a type of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Solution-focused brief therapy is related to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)in that both are pragmatic approaches that deal less with gaining a full understanding of the cause of a mental health problem and more with creating plans for how to cope with these problems and improve an individual’s day-to-day life. They are distinct, however, in that SFBT emphasises building on strengths and resources, while CBT focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviors.
