I am most interested in helping parents with the challenges of parenting teens; aiding young adults in transition from high school and college; helping adults through difficult transitions; and teaching coping skills and stress management techniques, such as mindfulness meditation, to all age groups.
If you are looking for a therapist who is a calm presence and can help you sort out your current life situation, you may have found the right person. I am someone who is "in the moment" with clients, attending to what they need now and eventually challenging them to look at past patterns of thoughts and behaviors to gain insight into making changes that will help them achieve their goals in life. This is done in collaboration with my clients and at a comfortable pace for them.

If you're feeling anxious, depressed, stuck, or just that life isn't what you think it should be, let's talk. I'm a good listener, I've had great training, and together, we can get you from where you are to where you'd like to be. I use a variety of approaches, depending on the needs of my clients, and we will determine an agreed upon treatment plan so that you know what the goals are. Although it sometimes gets worse before it gets better, it always gets better. Isn't that assurance worth taking the first step? Give me a call.

Virtual openings beginning in September. Hi, I'm Katie! Do you struggle with high stress or feeling down, but not sure how to feel better? Daily challenges, emotional burdens, and past experiences can leave you feeling drained and stuck in a rut. I specialize in helping women who want to exit the vicious cycle & feel themselves again. I can help you identify triggers, set goals and maintain them. I use techniques known as "CBT," or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (using the way you think to improve mood or stress) and distress tolerance skills so that you build that resiliency muscle- just like an athletic trainer would in a gym.

Creating a space that is safe, non-judgmental, and supportive for my clients is my utmost priority. Navigating through painful emotions can be a solitary journey, but together, we can embark on a path of healing and discovery. My approach is holistic and collaborative. At the heart of successful therapy is a robust therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client, which I believe is a cornerstone for a lasting and transformative experience. Understanding our history offers us profound insights into unresolved issues and internal conflicts.

You’re not sure when it happened, but you don’t recognize the person you see in the mirror. As far as everyone else can tell, you’ve got a great life. You’re accomplished, driven, and dependable. But on the inside, you never feel good enough and the voice in your head is quick to remind you of all the ways you’re falling short, or of events from the past pulling your focus away from the here and now. You spend your time and energy trying to keep it all together and giving your time to everyone but yourself. You feel exhausted and you know something needs to change. And you know the time is now!

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
