It isn't always easy to work through life's challenges and find appropriate support. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space for those who want to work toward positive change and personal growth. My style is collaborative, straightforward and goal-oriented. I am an active listener and offer insight into clients' choices, patterns of behavior/thoughts, and persistent struggles. I hope to guide my clients toward greater self-awareness in the therapy room and beyond to their day-to-day lives. I use talk therapy, CBT and coaching in my work with individuals and groups.

Life during parenthood can be beautiful but also extremely challenging. Feeling stressed, anxious, hyper vigilant, angry, worried, sad, burnt out, spread too thin, unsupported, or just not like yourself can add to the already challenging job set before you as a parent, but there is hope. You are not alone in feeling this way, and you do not need to continue feeling this way. I understand that you want to be able to enjoy your parenthood journey, and life, once again, and I will guide you to relief, clarity, and healing through warmth, understanding, and treatment methods designed specifically for parents.

I’m proud to be a wise elder. I have academic strengths & years of working with people, but most of all, I have the wisdom that comes with age & the intuition to connect & mindshare with you. Maybe you’ve never felt understood & have a negative self-concept projected onto you by dysfunctional elders that you carried into the present. Know that you have the innate human ability to heal. You can be helped to see the roots of your old maladaptive beliefs & you can replace them with positive, realistic ones for today-a new narrative for your life.

I believe that psychotherapy is very useful in connecting deeply with oneself and subsequently with others. Anxiety and depression are often related to faulty coping mechanisms developed in childhood that lead to painful relationships. Being happy in work and love are the pillars of a rewarding and fulfilled life and therapy makes this possible.

Accepting New Patients Now! You don't have to be positive all the time. It's perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having feelings doesn't make you a negative person. It makes you human. Have you heard the saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? Well what if you aren’t sure how to make lemonade or even if you will like it? Sometimes we wish to look at the positives of life and respond to things differently but you may not know how to or even why you respond to triggers the way you do. My ideal client is one who is seeking help. That means you.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
