Therapy can benefit you wherever you are in life, whether it's in the midst of a crisis, if you're feeling distant from a partner or your parents, or if you simply want to know yourself better. Providing therapy is a sacred calling for me, and I am honored to empower either individuals, couples, families, or groups to reach goals or explore the unknown. I use a systemic approach to help clients in the context of environments and identities. Together, we can grow and become the authors of our own stories. By accepting who we are and our imperfections, we increase our ability to love ourselves and connect more deeply with others.

Sometimes, just getting through the day can be very hard. There are so many roles that we play: Perhaps we are working, studying, parenting, teaching, coaching, not to mention shopping, cooking, maintaining a household, sharing life with someone and trying our best to do it all. Am I talking about you?

In psychotherapy, the therapist and client commit to work together to facilitate change. My goal is to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space as we focus on issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, adjustment, sexual identity/LGBTQ concerns, and traditional/non-traditional relationships. My approach to therapy is both holistic and mindful. I view the client as a whole, focusing on the need to bring the mind, body, and spirit into harmony while each element plays a role in healing and the creation of change.

What's wrong with this relationship? The same problems keep on repeating time after time. So what does a study of psychology reveal? A well-trained and experienced psychotherapist can help to shine a light into the dark unconscious places which shroud the mysteries. This helps to bring the issues into consciousness, and once there, allows you to work with them. This work involves change. There may be many underlying issues including: mental states of anxiety and depression, an addiction, anger, lack of trust, various stressors, poor communication, extended family interferences, and more.

I work with individuals and couples that face a variety of challenges, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and dissatisfaction, infidelity, impulse control, and adjustment issues. I am trained and use ACT principles when working with my clients. ACT is a mindfulness, acceptance, and commitment approach to psychotherapy. Working together, I help clients slow down the thought process so they can thoughtfully respond to difficult thoughts and emotions. This allows you to take value-based behavioral action as opposed to having emotional, automatic reactions. I also offer supervision to therapists.

Dear Seeker, As someone who realized just in time that they had to get a grip on their problems, or they would keep gripping them, I know what it’s like to finally understand what it’s like to accept full responsibility for your mistakes and your life. Problems like: The times that leave you physically, mentally, and emotionally frozen because you can’t make up your mind. When your day feels like you’re trying to crawl through mud just to make it to the end of the day. The moments that your inner critic becomes obsessed with keeping you down. Career shake-ups, that leave you flailing for a lifeline.

I work with adults and adolescents who are experiencing challenging life circumstances and adjustments, struggle with important relationships, self-esteem, live with mood disorders/anxiety, are seeking relief from past trauma, and individuals wanting to live a more satisfying and engaged life. My work is to participate in creating a therapeutic space and to use my skills to promote awareness and support positive change. This may require looking at both past and present-day issues. Developing a good working relationship (being a good "fit") with my clients is essential.

I believe that the complexities of our lives lead us to carry stress and trauma in our bodies well beyond when those experiences happen to us. By using a combination of EMDR, somatic (body-focused) work, and internal family systems (parts work), I aim to let you control your life instead of your past.

Drug Abuse Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
