I offer individualized care to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, and other mental health, social or emotional difficulties.

I tend to work from a variety of perspectives based in attachment theory, Polyvagal Theory, the Structural Dissociation model, parts work/IFS, somatic modalities, mindfulness and self compassion.
It can be a powerful time for trauma work when starting a family of your own. Often my clients are young adults and new parents who are highly self critical to avoid being with messiness and what cannot be controlled. They use alcohol, substances, food, exercise, work/ busyness or caretaking to manage or stay away from feelings. Often they expect the worst and prepare to self protect and can be overly focused on the people around them. My clients share about anxiety or depression since childhood or have complicated family of origin dynamics.

My approach incorporates cognitive behavioral theories, mindfulness and acceptance, EMDR/trauma-focused and holistic methods.
I provide services for clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I offer a professional relationship with my clients to assist them in exploring and resolving difficult issues. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. Self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that sometimes take a long time to achieve. While some clients may need only a few counseling sessions to feel complete, others may require months. I offer a caring, empathic space to explore, heal and to try new ways of being.

Mindfulness-based body-centered psychotherapy is my primary approach.
Pain is something we've all experienced. However, often instead of confronting and experiencing the emotions that come along with it, we tend to sidestep and ignore them. This leads to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I work with my clients to embrace the emotions of their past and present in a safe and healthy environment, enabling them to live a more wholesome lifestyle.

Perhaps you are seeking treatment to cope with a loss, to manage anxiety or mood swings, or are struggling with a difficult relationship. Therapy provides you with a safe, supportive and healing environment to explore your innermost thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement. I practice using a psychodynamic approach, also known as insight-oriented therapy. I also utilize other approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness techniques.

I primarily draw on the theories of Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in work with clients.
Looking for a therapist who is a good fit can be overwhelming but it's an important act of self care taking the time and energy for your mental health to be a priority. This is the first step in a commitment to personal growth. My goal is to give you the space, tools and strategies to support you through that process. Growth and change can be uncomfortable but when a client collaborates to do the necessary work it can be transformative. Therapy is uniquely tailored for each client's needs and goals and I work to help clients feel supported and safe in the therapy space for the process to be as successful as possible.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
