I try to create a safe space in therapy for you to be yourself. No positive change can happen without safety. I feel that I provide safety and lots of clarity in helping people sort out their problems so that they may choose to deal with them one at a time. I accomplish this with my clients, just as I do in my own life, through empathy and mindfulness.

My work consists of a collaborative exploration of your needs and hopes in a supportive and culturally sensitive environment. Past and present life adversaries often shape the way we feel and interact. Examining our unhealthy patterns and incorperating our strengths in a trusting therapeutic relationship, can elicit experiences of personal growth, living a richer life and increasing our propensity for healthy and adaptive relationships. I work well with a range of psychological needs and concerns; anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, self - esteem, life changing events and trauma are some of the areas that I welcome in our exploration.

The focus of my work, both as a psychotherapist and coach, has been on identifying and encouraging people's strengths in their work and relationships. The positive psychology movement today is much in vogue but I have been practicing this model my entire career. Focusing on strengths rather than pathology has been extremely effective in my work with adults, adolescents, and couples.

Are you feeling exhausted by daily life? It’s okay to feel overwhelmed by tasks that “should be” simple. It’s become normal to feel anxiety and stress almost all of the time. But it doesn’t have to be like that. I believe everyone has the ability to achieve an internal state of calm-happiness. We want to be thriving, not just getting through the day. But sometimes, we need a little extra help to achieve that.

Have you been feeling off? Like something is missing? Wanting more for yourself? You wouldn't be here if you weren't ready for change, and I'd be honored to walk with you as you start the process! It can feel scary & overwhelming, yet therapy is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. It takes courage to reach out and ask for help. Doing so does not make you weak, but shows your strength.

In addition to my work with new moms and parenting, I also enjoy my work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression, trauma, as well as challenges in their relationships and life transitions.
I enjoy working with new moms, both as it relates to the transition to parenthood and postpartum stress/depression. The birth of a child can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. I am passionate about working with moms to understand these wide range of powerful emotions and how to best manage them. As parents, we often reach out for help when it comes to support for our children but neglect our own struggles. I believe that one of the best things we can do as parents, is to understand how our own dysfunctions play a part in our children's lives.

Parenting a young child can be incredibly joyful but also stressful.
I help parents who are struggling with challenges with their young child (0-6 years) around any number of issues, including: sleep, feeding, potty learning, cooperation, getting through daily routines, discipline, challenges functioning in a group setting, developing positive peer relationships, learning to develop self-regulation, and managing sibling rivalry. I help parents understand what makes their child tick and how to meet their needs, especially when it comes to how to discipline using positive, not punitive approaches.

I'm happy you are here. I work with women and new parents who are struggling with the transition to pregnancy or parenting and want to feel more enjoyment and confidence in their new identity and relationships. I know it can be intimidating to consider therapy. You may be pregnant or newly postpartum, grappling with the physical, emotional, and environmental changes that come with such a transition. You may be a tired or stressed out parent, trying to “have it all” but always falling behind the endless to-do’s. I understand the difficulties that come with expanding your family. We can work together to reduce your stress.

I understand what it's like to be a parent.
There are three type of people that I LOVE to help: Parents who are at their wits end with their kids, young adults who are resentful/angry with their family and pregnant/postpartum folks who are undergoing an identity shift. Understanding family dynamics and the impacts that they have are a huge part of how I practice clinically.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
