Therapeutic Approach: Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), & Motivational Interviewing Mindfulness Practices.
Welcome to CMCC! I'm Ashley Roberson, a Black female therapist dedicated to supporting Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ individuals on their journey toward healing & fulfillment. "How are you feeding your mind & body?" This is the question I often ask because our well-being is deeply connected to what we allow into our lives—be it people, thoughts, or habits. My mission is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your frustrations, goals, hopes, & fears. If you're part of the BIPOC community or identify as LGBTQ+ & are navigating challenges like anxiety, depression, or PTSD. I'm here to help.

My therapeutic approach includes a range of evidence-based therapies such as Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Existential Therapy.
I support minoritized individuals as they navigate workplace discrimination and microaggressions, helping them cope and advocate for themselves effectively. My clients are often managing major life transitions such as job loss, perinatal loss, divorce, blending families, or raising a neurodivergent child. I also provide specialized care for aging-related issues, including retirement and legacy planning, dementia, and age-related depression and anxiety. My clients seek to rebuild and redefine their lives after significant changes, striving for resilience, empowerment, and renewed purpose.

I take a holistic, interpersonal approach in my work with clients, drawing on cognitive behavior therapeutic (CBT) interventions and motivational interviewing methods while integrating mindfulness and breathing strategies.
Living with purpose, meaning and happiness calls for self-compassion as you work to heal and grow. I believe we each have the innate ability for personal development that is enhanced when we are in a safe and supportive relationship. It can be hard to ask for help so I work to establish a strong, trusting relationship where needs, experiences and goals can be explored and worked on without fear of being judged. I work with adults experiencing a broad range of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship issues, attention/concentration issues, and changing life circumstances.

Often times we find reasons to devalue our own needs because acknowledging pain is hard. I encourage you to take this moment to put your happiness and well-being first. People reach out to me when they feel less in control of their lives. When stressful changes in life leave them feeling restless at night; they aren't able to turn off their mind. They often feel on edge, as if they might cry or lose their cool at any moment. It becomes difficult to feel joy from their usual pleasures. When clients sit down with me they want to regain a sense of normalcy and peace.

Are you tired of feeling like your life is always the topic of the group chat or the family gathering? Do you feel like no matter how hard you try, you just can't get it together? Ever said to yourself " Life can't get any worse" and then there life goes getting worse? or can't seem to figure out why you can't leave that toxic situationship alone? If you answered yes to any of those questions, let's talk about it. I enjoy working with children and young adults as they face life's challenges to create a life they love.

“Be yourself always, in all ways” Many people come into therapy with a preconceived notion about how therapy has gone for them, how it’s supposed to go, and/or how it will go if they’ve never been. My greatest philosophy is that in order to experience therapy in its purest form, the first step is to let go of those expectations, & come willing to explore something new. Whomever you are, as beautiful or ugly as you assume, your full self is welcome right here. Through genuine empathy and connection, I hope to create a safe space for you to discover and create your identity.

Life happens to all of us; stressors are inevitable, unresolved feelings may arise and it can all be just a little bit overwhelming. Despite our best efforts we may find ourselves overly stressed, alone, anxious, or just tired. Whether it’s dealing with a transition, a loss, a tragedy, a relationship, or just the daily highs and lows, we all deserve a place to decompress and process what life throws at us. Maybe this is a tough season for you, or maybe you just need support as you work on your goals. Therapy should act as both a safe space filled with warmth and compassion, and a brave space that challenges and empowers.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
