I try to make the process of starting therapy as straight forward and welcoming as possible. My approach is to get to know you by creating an atmosphere where you can speak freely about your life. Everybody has frustrations, doubts, aches, unpredictable circumstances, and a desire for growth and connection. Without proper attention, these difficulties can sometimes develop into depression, anxiety, and destructive behaviors. I believe in the importance of enduring relationships, meaningful work, balance, creativity, and taking good care of yourself. I am available for consultations, individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, and referrals to family therapy and psychiatric care.

Does your life feel stagnant, as if you’ve come to a dead end and you can’t progress any further? Maybe you’re in a relationship that’s hit a wall—communication has broken down and you and your partner just aren’t on the same page anymore. Or perhaps you’re recovering from an addiction and you find yourself struggling with sobriety. Amid your challenges, the idea of change may seem impossible. You might feel depressed, anxious, and stuck. If this is the case, I want you to know that change is possible even though it might not look like that right now. You do not have to be alone in this journey.

As we move through life, we may find ourselves in moments of confusion about who we are, where we're going, and wondering if we can meet the new challenges and experiences that await us. Pursuing an education, establishing a career, dating and forming lasting relationships, ending relationships, starting a family – each new chapter in the book of our lives can be incredibly uncomfortable AND deeply exciting! But sometimes you need help avoiding the overwhelm, over-thinking, and confusion accompanying change so you can master your mind, turn desire into action, keep progress steady, and your relationships vibrant and connected.

Everyday challenges become hard to deal with and can start to feel overwhelming and unbearable. And because your mind and health are so closely connected, this thought pattern can physically affect you. It can also start to trickle into your relationships, your work, and every facet of your life. But there is hope. In fact, you have already taken the first step in feeling better and empowering yourself by looking into therapy. And while situations and circumstances differ from person to person - one thing remains the same: we can solve any problem together. It is important to take care of one's mind and health. Self care makes you feel superstitious. You aren’t opposed to therapy per se rather you are agnostic regarding your ‘healing.’ Re-telling the origin story of your pain again bores you, you figure that’s a definite red flag to recovery. Mindfulness exercises are interesting but not life-changing. Like carnival rides they are too short and have nothing to do with your real world. Years ago talk therapy felt as deep as dishwater, uncomfortable and without an endgame. You wonder if you are impervious to therapy, an idea that leaves you deflated.

As an experienced therapist, I have worked with clients dealing with adoption and attachment issues, ADHD, depression, anxiety and phobias. One of my goals is to help adults and teens achieve a more positive and satisfying life by working together to identify and clarify issues that are having a negative impact. This allows them to move forward and formulate practical and effective solutions. In addition, I use play therapy to help children express feelings that can be difficult to verbalize.

I work with adolescents, young adults, adults and families struggling with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, relationship problems, health problems and life transitions.
NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME All of us at times find ourselves overwhelmed by problems that we struggle to cope with on our own, whether around difficult relationships, life transitions, family stress, disruptive traumatic memories, or a sense of isolation or despair. My goal is to help my clients better recognize and understand their feelings, thoughts and behaviors and to mobilize their own innate strengths to reduce suffering, create positive change, and feel stronger and more connected.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
