I specialize in cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based treatment, specifically ACT, DBT, and trauma-focused therapy that is evidence-based, which means it has been shown to help people get better and stay better.
Many people come to me concerned that therapy cannot work for them. They feel hopeless, or discouraged, or worried that they are beyond help. In fact, some have had previous therapy experiences that have reinforced these fears. If that is your experience, don't give up hope. We will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to address your individual needs. I am an active and engaged therapist, which means I will not sit back and quietly smoke a pipe while you lie on my office couch. I strive to create a collaborative therapy environment where you are an equal partner in identifying your treatment goals.

I use strength based, evidenced-based practices including DBT, mind body connection, meditation, and wellness practices.
Life is full of challenges which often can be overwhelming and stressful. You may be feeling anxious, depressed and/or confused. It takes courage and strength to reach out and allow yourself to be vulnerable and to share your inner most thoughts, feelings and experiences. I am here to offer support, guidance and encouragement as we explore together whatever you are facing in your life. I find that when we allow ourselves to be “In the state of possibility!” that the door to change and transformation is open. I am a trauma informed therapist with Holistic Healing CC and specialize in working with children, adolescents and adults.

In therapy sessions, I typically use CBT, DBT and family therapy modalities to explore client’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors to provide insight into the connection between these three entities as well as provide skills to regulate emotions, improve relationships, handle stress, and live mindfully (focusing heavily on acceptance of emotions).
Are you and/or your child open to the challenging and vulnerable, but beautiful journey that is exploring/bettering overall mental health? If so, you've come to the -not-so- perfect place! I most enjoy working with clients who can appreciate humor and straight-forwardness, as I often approach the therapeutic relationship with authenticity and acceptance as well as the mindset of embracing imperfection. I specialize in individual and family therapy focusing on ADHD, anxiety, depression, stress/trauma for individuals under the age of 30 :)

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
