I welcome all clients who are interested in working on any issues which are interfering with their own happiness, including issues of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, sexuality, gender identity, and adoption/fertility related issues. I work with each client individually to create goals that are purposeful, meaningful, and attainable. I frequently revisit treatment goals, so that clients can reflect their own process and progress in therapy.

Is your anger causing problems in your relationships? Or at work? Do you feel like you go from 0 to 100 in seconds? Out of control anger can get you in a lot of trouble. No doubt you’ve already experienced some of that in your life and you’d like to get a handle on it. You want to stop hurting the people you love, the people you’re friends with, the people you have to work with, but when something happens to set you off, you just can’t help blowing up. You may worry about whether one day you’re going to use up your last chance and lose your significant other, your family, your job. You need some help getting unstuck from this.

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons. Many desire a sense of fulfillment and others wish to function more effectively. Whether you are experiencing relationship difficulties or family conflict; struggling with anxiety, depression, and stress; or feel burdened by events from the past, therapy can be a safe space where you explore ways to find meaning and build the life you want. My priority is to create a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment where people feel empowered to recognize and eventually express their needs for love, support, protection, and comfort.

Welcome- I’m glad you have arrived. My dream for creating this practice was to offer you a unique and warm experience where you can relax into their therapy process. Unlike traditional therapy spaces, I utilize my home as a temenos- an enclosed, sacred space, where you belong and are welcomed. I am experienced in working with adults and children, though my areas of clinical interest are in addressing trauma, attachment, and creative/artistic blocks, and life transitions.

I am a therapist with 13 years experience who recently relocated to Maryland. I have specialized my work in the medical setting with those with chronic illnesses and have also cared for many in the LGBTQI+ community. I enjoy providing counseling to pre-teens, teens and young adults. I have had the privilege to witness the most vulnerable moments with my clients and then observe their growth, healing, and evolution. I would be honored to play a role in your journey too. The idea of therapy is challenging for some. I focus on meeting my clients at their comfort level and prioritize their personal goals and needs.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
