The therapeutic relationship is one of healing and hope. Facilitating that relationship is very important because I understand the value of working with someone not pushing their usually well-intentioned agenda onto your situation. Someone outside our problems who has no investment in how we handle those problems can offer limitless perspective and an abundance of compassion. In addition to being a listening ear, therapists have many resources and tools to help us navigate whatever challenges and changes life throws at us. This is the type of therapist I strive to be.
I have a systemic approach to therapy, meaning that I consider not just the individual but the systems they are a part of and how those systems may impact their well-being. This approach means not pathologizing behavior but rather seeking to understand the purpose of the behavior. I strive for a shame-free environment.
Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and other methods to understand these behaviors helps us replace maladaptive thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors with adaptive ones to live a healthy and happy life. As your therapist, I am a coach and teacher working alongside you as you work through life's challenges.
