I am a firm believer that understanding how health concerns and physical symptoms can show up hand in hand with mental health struggles is incredibly valuable. I believe that the better you understand how your body and mind interact, the more ability you will have to control symptoms. I have been trained to work with trauma, substance abuse, PTSD, chronic illness, family systems, couples, children, groups & individuals. My unique background in medicine also helps in working with individuals with chronic illness. My time in EMS can aid in working with individuals from the military, emergency services & medical personnel.
Prior to gaining my master's in clinical mental health counseling I worked in emergency medicine for 16 years (14 years as a paramedic and 2 years in the ER). This offers me a unique approach and understanding of not only mental health, but how it interacts in the body and how chronic medical issues can effect mental health and vice versa.
I am a firm believer that you are your own best expert and that my job is to walk with you to help you process and heal. I believe that the therapist should adapt to the client, not the other way around.
