In my experience with working with individuals from all walks of life, a nearly universal thread that I see underlying most mental health and substance abuse struggles are histories of trauma. This life is hard and this world is cruel. Therefore, most of my practice comes from an understanding of the intergenerational effects and ongoing disruption that a single traumatic event can pose on an individual’s wellbeing. Utilizing CBT, DBT, and ACT, my goal is to help clients heal in a holistic manner.
Spending an hour with a new counselor can be a scary thought and make someone shun away from counseling. In my sessions, I strive to be both accommodating and authentic- even if that means I am my own awkward self. Do you cuss at home? Cuss up a storm in my office! We are real people.
In receiving feedback from clients, most folks appreciate that I am consistently reliable, am easy to talk to, and that I create a safe atmosphere for talking through difficult topics. It is my philosophy that the counseling session is the client’s time. I promote open communication to structure and change interventions so that the session best suits you.
