My specialty but not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness.
With the trying times we now face daily, you may feel like many people have lost their way. The quiet place we used to gather our thoughts and plan for the future seems to be lite years in the past. It can be hard to listen to what our brains tell us when working, caring for others, or distracted, besides the daily struggle of just living. The “New norm” is a struggle that consumes us daily. We’re so used to multi-tasking that we don’t give time and space to sit down and reflect. Scheduling time for yourself is going to be a more critical component of your wellness.

Utilizing an evidenced-based, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and client-centered approach, I aim to provide a safe and supportive space where we can collaborate and work at your own pace to enhance self-development.
As we travel through this journey of life, getting past challenges can be a difficult process. At times, we may need the guidance and support of a skilled professional. I have over 10 years of experience providing clinical counseling in mental health facilities, school settings, and private practice. Currently, I provide teletherapy via a HIPAA compliant platform to help clients take the steps to better manage life’s challenges. When clients learn to effectively manage persistent challenges – they understand better…they feel better…they perform better.

My area of focus is parental support, grief & loss, anxiety, life adjustments, and behavioral issues.
“Be gentle with yourself”! That is my motto, as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. Life circumstances can happen that are completely out of our control, and helping clients develop the tools to handle adversities in life is my passion. Society has placed a stigma on therapy, and my work is focused on helping individuals realize that taking care of their mental health is just as important as taking care of their physical health. The shame in therapy must the removed!

It’s okay to not be okay but don’t settle for a lifetime of not being okay! Do you struggle with intense emotions? Do your emotions interfere with school, work, or interpersonal relationships? Do you have a history of trauma that have caused you to feel abandoned, hopeless, or empty? Do you struggle with Behavioral issues that cause harm to yourself or others? Do you have current or past life challenges that have been difficult to overcome? If the answer is yes to any of those questions, you are in the right place!

Life happens to all of us and we usually deal with it, but sometimes things get challenging and we cannot go it alone - we need "someone" to walk with us. So, whether you are a parent trying to manage your child’s behavior or support your child in school; an individual seeking personal development or dealing with mental illness; or a family going through transition, I want to be your "someone".

Kerri utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strength Based Approach with her clients. Cognitive-behavioral therapy stresses the role of thinking and its effects on how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. This type of therapy assists the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking. CBT is a structured collaboration between therapist and client and often calls for homework assignments.

Behavioral Issues Therapists
What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioral issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behavior issues?
Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
