Hello! My name is Mary Karla, and I am licensed in CA, FL, NY, MA, and CT. I practice a collaborative approach to therapy as I believe this empowers my clients to obtain what they desire regarding therapeutic goals. I specialize in Couples and family therapy. I did postgraduate training for couples and family therapy at Ackerman Institute for the Family in NYC. I use the Ackerman Relational Model for my work with this population. I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with individuals, especially when presenting with symptoms of anxiety and mood disorders. Other modalities offered are Solution Focused Therapy, DBT, and ACT.
I have years of experience working with couples, families, adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults. I also specialize in blended families. The first session will be longer in duration than the following sessions as we will complete an intake and diagnostic assessment.
I work collaboratively with my clients, as I believe they are the experts in their own lives. Together we will design a treatment plan that they can take with them and refer to even when therapy with me ends. My communication style is safe, and warm, and provides a nonjudgmental environment.
