My specialties include substance use, behavioral addictions, sexual dysfunction, pornography, marriage counseling, and trauma.
I enjoy working with anyone who is genuine, and has an honest desire to learn about themselves, and the courage to begin to make small changes. I fully appreciate clients who are teachable, and who have open minds to understand new concepts. Not all clients are able to identify their goals in the beginning of therapy. This is some thing I enjoy working with clients to determine what changes will create the most positive impact in their lives, or in the challenges they are facing I approach clients with a person centered orientation, and a strength-based approach.

I am trained to help with addictions, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and marital support.
Brene Brown once said "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." We all have parts we're afraid to show to the world. Therapy's greatest gift is offering a non-judgmental space to be our true selves and let someone in. Self-acceptance, self-grace, and the belief that we are enough are often missing in life. Not enough people talk about it, but I want you to share with me. Let me see your real, authentic, messy, beautiful self. I'll walk with you as you find your own answers and solutions, gently guiding you when needed. If you genuinely want change and are willing to try new things, you’re my ideal client.

EFT research shows that 70-75% of couples move from marital distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements.
I provide counseling to individuals and couples in the Salt Lake City area. I work with my clients to identify issues clearly and help them to create lasting change. Once this change occurs, problems will be seen as opportunities, rather than failures. I am often told by my clients they feel a level of trust, acceptance and comfort that has been missing with other therapists. When working with individuals, I use acceptance and mindfulness based approaches to manage anxiety and other symptoms you may be experiencing. I will help you look at negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a fulfilling life.

I am sensitive to LDS-related issues with sexual and marital conditions.
Over the years, I have developed my gift of diagnosis which helps me to understand my patients in an accurate and easy to understand manner for them. Then we grieve together the past and implement interventions and boundaries for a healthy future. Psychotherapy is proven to be more enduring than drug therapy, and my approach towards treating my patients is to avoid medication where possible.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
