With almost 20 years of experience as a marriage and sex therapy I've created a philosophy and roadmap to help couples figure out what they want and what is keeping them from getting what they want.
Are you close to the end of your rope and wonder if there is any hope? Resentments, unresolved conflicts, sexual intimacy problems, trust issues, infidelity, pornography use, growing apart and thinking about divorce are the issues that I really like working with. If any of these hit close to home, we might have a good match. Warning: - I'm light, a little irreverent, but I don't lose focus on results. My focus is on helping you find out what you want and then work through the nitty gritty and create lasting change quickly. It’s a mindset thing. The way you view what you do will always affect the way you do what you do. That includes your job, you marriage, and your life. The breakthroughs you have been seeking in your life, and in your marriage, start in your mind. I will help you identify the barriers that have been getting in the way of you living your best life, and come up with real and effective actions you can use immediately to begin making that shift. Change can be hard, but you are worth it. You deserve to have happy relationships, free from nonproductive patterns in your life, and to find meaning and create the life you desire.

I also have extensive training in working with adults to improve family and marital relationships.
Over the last 11 years, I have had the privilege of working with great people in helping them achieve their potential. I focus especially on creating healthy relationships within the family environment, and teaching children positive self esteem and respect for themselves and others. I apply positive psychology and strength-based training to increase the abilities and desires of youth to succeed and improve performance at home and at school. I have tremendous respect for the notion that no one is great at everything, but through hard work everyone can be great at something.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I specialize in working with couples, families, and individuals of all ages (including children and adolescents).
As humans, we are hard-wired for connection. Relationships shape beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world around us. These core beliefs influence our inner world (thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations) and our interactions with others.

Life is beautiful and we are capable of exploring all aspects of it: the good and the difficult. Both things are necessary to become a strong and better "us"! Though there is so much good, life also comes with unanticipated 'rocks in our backpack'. This can leave us confused, hurt, and feeling displaced. Effective therapy is about several factors: experience, client healing, a clear diagnosis, concise and appropriate goals, and the tools needed to effectively navigate difficulty along the journey of life. We love what we do and we are good at it! Visit us at GOLDWELLNESS.COM

My goal is to help LGBTQ+ individuals and their families thrive. As a queer man who grew up in Utah, I often help clients build and maintain healthy relationships, work through depression, stress, or anxiety, navigate relationships with less accepting family or friends, deal with difficulties surrounding coming out, overcome sexual challenges, and manage shame, discrimination and stigma. I regularly write letters of support for trans and nonbinary individuals looking for hormones or surgeries. I see adolescents, adults, couples, and families in person in Salt Lake (Kaysville) or Logan as well as online throughout the United States.

Let's have a cup of tea, get comfy, and have a chat. Therapy can be intimidating, but it can also be a treat. I want to provide a space that is free of judgement and foucses on client empowerment. A place where self love and compassion can thrive. A place where you can be yourself or where you can find yourself. If you're wanting support, compassion, and a bit of a push towards your goals, you've come to the right place!

Human connection is a fundamental aspect of well-being. Your ability to connect within relationships can be hindered for multiple reasons which can affect your well-being, and create confusion, anxiety, and depression. You may be limited by how you are seeing a situation. One of the greatest benefits of connection to your own internal world and connection to others is the safety it can create to explore and enjoy life. I specialize in healing relationships and unblocking areas that contribute to disconnect within oneself and within your relationships using Family Systems Theory, CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and mindfulness.

Therapy is: Creating desired changes which improve our lives. My goal is to help identify the obstacles which are impeding your happiness and assist you in making changes that will bring a greater level of joy and fulfillment to your life. People enjoy my warm, easy going, supportive nature as they work through life's struggles. Clients progress as they overcome fears, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, addictions, relationship problems, old/new emotional wounds. Success in treatment comes as the barriers to my client's "desired life" fall, one by one, and they become independently prepared for new functioning in life.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
