Thank you for taking time to read my profile. I know you are busy and need solutions fast. I have 31 years post graduate clinical experience in psychotherapy. My training and experience gives me an advantage when working with complex family dynamics such as divorce, custody and other traumas. I am accepting court ordered Child Custody Evaluations. Often, there is a point in life where we are unhappy with the status quo: our relationships are confusing and don’t satisfy; conflict seems inevitable and we aren’t functioning to our God-given potential. Perhaps that is why you are here, searching for a therapist. I understand that it is scary to start therapy but I will do my best to make you feel safe and comfortable. My approach is pretty simple. Most us of have patterns of thought and assumptions that were instilled in us as children, patterns that we don’t know how to change. Beneath that, lies the paralyzing fear that we can’t change.

Life is hard! Whether it be stressors of everyday life, family or marital issues, school or work-related problems or because of recent or past trauma/grief, life can become messy. It gets hard not only for oneself, but also for loved ones or those around us. The reality is it happens to ALL of us. Sometimes all we need is for someone to listen with compassion and without judgment. Sometimes we require resources or coping strategies to help navigate the obstacles life throws at us. No matter what it is we need, therapy is the first step. Therapy equips us with the tools that we need to face whatever hardships we have.

I enjoy working with couples - communication & conflict, family growth & life stages, etc. I have experience with addiction, adolescents, young adults. I've walked with many people through crises, loss, and big life changes. I believe stuff from our past - family of origin issues, abuse and trauma, grief, etc. - shows up in and affects our present. I hope therapy helps people come to terms with the past, and address concerns of the present, so they can have a healthier and happier future.

Life is often the most stressful when things are unpredictable and out of our control. So, it's not unusual, with the state of the world today, we might be feeling more stressed than we normally do. Things you've been able to cope with in the past you might be finding more difficult to handle. In times like these, we have to focus on what we can control and learn to cope with things we can't change. My role is to assist you in the process

I typically work with clients experiencing Family Conflict, Divorce, Relationship Issues, LGBTQIA+, and Marital/Pre-Marital issues. S in Psychology and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University.
Are you tired of not being in your true self and having to act like someone else around others? Are you tired of feeling not good enough, anxious, angry, and afraid? When an individual is not in their true self they become out of balance and so does their relationships. This leads to a negative interactional cycle that causes increased insecurity, loss of self worth, value, and hope. My experience entails working with families, couples, individuals and adolescents that are searching for their true self. To love others you must love yourself first.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
