I also provide family and marital therapy services.
Compass was founded with the vision of empowering individuals who are struggling with emotional, behavioral, social, or other challenges to utilize their strengths to achieve their goals. These goals vary by individual; clients may present with goals to improve their academic or occupational functioning, foster healthier relationships, take control of powerful emotional responses, or (most commonly) to get answers about the sources of their struggles through psychological testing that we use to inform individualized treatment planning. My job is to provide answers to these questions and work with you to achieve success.

I focus on the treatment of trauma, ADHD, mood disorders (including depression and anxiety), social anxiety, marriage and family issues, parenting, and grief/loss.
I know when looking for counseling the process can seem daunting. You have to worry about specializations, openings, the time it will take to get to and from the appointment, not to mention the appointment itself. At New Heights we focus on making the process as easy as possible, from helping connect you to the best clinician within the practice to providing the most advanced treatment options we can. You matter and we want to help you achieve not just your mental health goals but making joy a part of your life.

I have specialized in trauma recovery and marital/couples counseling for 12+ years.
At The Care Center I help clients dealing with issues including depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, previous traumas, and life adjustment issues. I also help marriages or couples dealing with infidelity, blended family issues, conflict, communication issues, and couples in crisis. My philosophy is to find the roots of the problems and resolve them rather than simply helping learn awkward coping skills. At The Care Center you won't learn empathic/active listening, I statements or deep breathing techniques. We work on healing wounds and rebuilding trust. When you do these things you don't need more "coping skills."

You may be feeling lonely, overwhelmed, or scared for yourself, your marriage, or your family. It may seem like your life is falling apart or you or your loved ones are constantly walking on egg shells. Its getting more difficult to keep it together for appearances or maybe its already past that point. You've tried just about everything you can think of to make your situation better but nothing has worked and things are getting worse. You may be hanging on by a thread, but you are not ready to give up hope.

As a 40-something Christian with more than 18 years of clinical experience in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have found that life is a journey of learning filled with twists and turns that hold the potential to be either the cage that imprisons us or the opportunity that grows us to a new level of development. Therein lies a choice that requires courage. It is a choice either to stay on the long-trodden path where we've been or to brave the new adventure of change. Christian Counseling is a place to find tools, support, and empowerment for that adventure! I would be honored to join you there.

You owe it to yourself and your partner to give this marriage its best chance.
You’re not sure exactly when it happened. But recently, you’ve begun to feel like the spark in your relationship has fizzled out. It’s painful to remember the love and excitement you shared early on and how far you are from that now. You tell yourself that things will get easier, and the relationship will improve by itself. When this doesn’t happen, you begin to wonder if this is just how marriage is supposed to be. Maybe every relationship becomes stagnant eventually. But you’re not ready to give up that easily. You’re determined to reclaim the healthy, thriving relationship you both deserve – you’re just unsure how to achieve it.

I am now accepting new clients! I also am now taking in network insurance! I know how difficult it is to obtain great relationship help or individual services. Ohio has a long wait list also for these services. I have also heard story after story about what happens when clients do not go to correct option. With marriage and relationships, everything is on the line. I also know folks are struggling individually. Relationships bring true satisfaction and are the core to wellness. I help with the entire continuum of friendship to intimate relationships. The couples program now has 25 years of success.

August of 2024 is the one-year anniversary of opening MiNDSET Integrated Ketamine Care. Hundreds of infusions later, we have seen how ketamine works biologically, psychotherapy works behaviorally, and the combo of the two leads to exponential change. We KNOW this is a new and emerging modality, so please feel free to reach out and schedule a call to ask your questions, share your concerns. The "traditional" practices I founded in 2014 are also remaining open! Both of these businesses focus on healing, integration, growth and teaching people the life changing skill of psychological flexibility.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
