One of the most important reasons I became a counselor is because I believe we all need someone to walk alongside us in the process of healing and restoration. I am passionate about helping people grow and reach the healthiest version of themselves in mind, body, and spirit. I focus on adults with trauma, attachment/developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, relational/ marital issues, and codependency issues. I specialize with partners who have experienced betrayal trauma and/or infidelity.

After being married for over 40 years undergoing intense educational training in the areas of family and marriage, I believe the information that I have gained in the marriage and family field has adequately prepared me to assist others in learning how to systemically work through some of the daily issues presented by today’s society.
The poet William Ernest Henley (1849-1903) penned the words : "I am the master of my fate: the captain of my soul." The message that Henley was so eloquently trying to convey is, that while we may face challenges in our lives, we should not let them defeat us! The fact is, life comes with rewards and defeats. Just as we have actions within us that respond to rewards, we also have actions within us to face defeats and the ability to learn how to rebuild, restore, and renew ourselves. One of the ways of renewing, sustaining, and rebuilding ourselves is through therapy.

My focus is on positive transformations and addressing many issues and concerns like parenthood, marital difficulties, premarital counseling, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, behavior, trauma, PTSD, and other disturbances in family relationships.
Many people see therapy as a one-sided conversation with little opportunity for interaction. I can tell you that is not my approach. I believe that you can navigate the challenges and changes life could bring. I am committed to helping you on your journey through partnership, a team effort to achieve symptom reduction, more self-awareness, and increased confidence. I want you to be free of emotional pain and be able to deal with life’s mental stressors.

My approach to therapy is best described with this analogy: We are on a road trip, you are driving, and I have the map. There are many routes we can take to reach our destination and we will work together to determine which route is best for your journey. The most important aspect of therapy, is feeling comfortable and safe with the therapist you have chosen to work with. I feel honored to work with each and every person whose bravery brings them to my office.

Reaching out for help takes courage and is likely one of the hardest steps on the path to healing. Maybe you've been praying that a relationship will improve, or you'll get a better job, the anxiety/depression you're feeling will go away, or the addiction you're battling will subside. Prayer does change things and gives us hope, but seeking the help of a trained professional can accelerate positive change, re-frame negative thoughts, and help restore balance in life. Learning new ways to cope, tapping into the power of mindfulness, and changing perspectives can ease depression and end isolation.

The most important things in life are not things they are our relationships. First is our relationship with ourself.  Are you struggling with grief, addiction, anxiety, depression, job problems, love addictions, parenting issues, sex problems?  Are you wanting better communications & more intimacy? Maybe your past has left you feeling insecure, shamed, resentful, or angry. Is this an old pattern or a new situation that you're facing?

I have experience working with clients who are struggling with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, as well as relationship issues surrounded by low self worth, shame and resentments. I have learned that there are many factors that contribute to someone feeling overwhelmed and may prevent us from reaching our goals that may also include poor coping skills, communication issues, grief or loss, and addiction issues. My goal will be to help you learn how to regulate emotions, identify unhealthy mindsets and/or memories that have kept you feeling trapped, and learn skills so you can find restoration in your life.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
