My interest includes cross-cultural issues with couples, individual therapy, and group therapy. I have extensive experience working with adults who are coping with trauma, domestic violence, struggle with depression, anxiety and addiction. My earlier work focused on immigrants and refugees who have experienced trauma. The therapeutic relationship gives clients a chance to safely explore new effective coping mechanisms to improve the quality of their lives. I believe that the role of the therapist is to help the client develop an increased self awareness and the client has the ability for self direction. The therapeutic relationship gives clients a chance to safely explore new effective coping mechanisms to improve the quality of their lives.
I worked in psychiatric and addiction hospitals, community mental health centers and I have significant experience working with diverse minority and multicultural populations. I have been in private practice for over 20 years. I am fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. I lived in Brazil for six years and Japan for two years.
