I give my full, non-judgmental attention when my clients and I are mutually exploring their concerns, and I'm active and responsive to clients' agendas as we work on the practical changes they're seeking. Establishing a safe, loving space is vital to this process. I've learned that behind a variety of issues, there are common roots. For example, many of us suffer from unhelpful thoughts that block our ability to see ourselves and our lives clearly. When we examine these, we take an important first step in the sequence of creating greater awareness, making new choices, and then establishing real change.
I'm most effective with motivated, growth-oriented individuals. I offer wisdom, practical suggestions, compassion, and humor. Some people need glue. Some need solvent. Some need to reframe the stories they've created about what's happened to them. Some need to release their feelings. I hand-tailor my approach, dependent on my client.
I'm also a published novelist (as Verlin Darrow)--my latest is The Not Quite Enlightened Sleuth. Two of my novels have won awards. I like to golf, read, and fuss over every dog I meet. If I make one dog a little bit happier on a given day, it's a good day.
