The primary factor that determines if therapy is helpful is the "fit" between therapist and patient, i.e., degree of comfort, ease of communication, agreement on what problems are to be addressed and sense of safety. My approach to treatment is guided by my initial assessment of individuals or couples, wherein I learn why help is being sought and way the specific problems are experienced. This helps me form a picture of what has lead to the problems that bring people to seek help. We then determine together if how I'm thinking is helpful.
I am trained as a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalyst and have treated a broad range of problems in over 30 years of practice. I work well with high-conflict marriages, individuals and adolescents. I stress the establishment of a good working relationship as fundamental to a good outcome.
I place great emphasis upon respect, understanding patients' points of view and agreeing on objectives of treatment. I have a reputation for warmth, intelligence and sustained interest in helping my patients resolve long-standing problems. I also consult with family businesses to assist in succession, sibling relationships and organizational structure.
