I love my work and am in awe of the individuals I work with who courageously address the hurts in their life that prevent them from living more fully. It maybe a crisis in a relationship, ongoing anxiety or depression, a painful trauma, or an inner sense that things are just not right. Together we pay attention to these feelings, enabling them to be talked about, more fully experienced and then understood. This transformative process can restore joy and resilience in life, as well as improve the capacity to care about oneself and be in relationship with others.

Sometimes it helps to shift our perspective, even slightly. What we have been doing is comfortable, but not necessarily effective. People are full of life and strength and vigor; and they are the primary architects for their happiness. Things that happen to us that aren't our fault, and we still have to resolve them anyway. Counseling can help make the perspective shift, and uncover the life, strength and vigor in all of us. I exclusively provide comprehensive DBT or DBT Complex Trauma models. I am a DBT - Linehan Board of Certification Certified Clinician.

I believe that "diagnosis and treatment" is too narrow a model to understand the depth and richness of our human experience, heal the wounds of our past history, and allow us to embody our joy and our fullness. I invite you to not only remove existing symptoms and change unhealthy behavior patterns, but to create a life of love, authenticity, and celebration.

I focus on working primarily with couples and individual adults who are dealing with trauma histories, identity/cultural issues, depression and/or anxiety. I can help you excavate your past trauma, your attachment and communication styles in a way that helps you understand them, and how these may be impacting what is going on with you in the present moment, so you can feel more in control of your body, your emotions, your thoughts, and your relationships. I have very limited space for teens also dealing with trauma, anxiety and depression, who can come for in-person services, at my Portsmouth, NH location.

Welcome! If you entrust me to walk with you on your path, I will do so with openness, compassion, honesty & non-judgement and will strive to help you find lightness & buoyancy even when things feel heavy and hard. I am a trauma-informed therapist who aims to show up to my work with wholehearted authenticity. It’s important to feel comfortable coming to therapy just as you are. Many of us experience major life changes, challenging relationships, grief, guilt, anxiety, or trauma reactions, that cause us to feel self-doubt, to feel disconnected from our needs and bodies, and to even minimize our own experiences. My approach, which is intersectional, developmentally focused, and trauma-informed, helps you tap into the knowledge your body and emotions have for you, while developing skills so these feelings don’t overwhelm and take center stage. I have current openings for EMDR, new parents with perinatal mood disorders, and LGBTQ folks.

Concerns with life transitions, relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, or grief can all be shared freely in this space. If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you.

After 35 years practicing as a clinical psychologist I have come to understand that effective treatment must be determined specifically for each client and applied in a respectful and cooperative manner. Treatment choices are made based on the uniqueness of the individual, his or her goals, and current life circumstances. They may include behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, in-depth therapy, or couples and family therapy. One treatment modality is not appropriate for all.
