I specialize in working with adults, ages 18 and up, who struggle with body image distress, body dysmorphia, disordered eating, and eating disorders who are looking to heal their relationship with themselves and food. Individuals who suffer from disordered eating and negative body image tend to struggle with self worth, high levels of shame, self-criticism, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, and a history of trauma. All of which perpetuate the illness. Eating disorders are not disorders of lacking control, but disorders of unmet needs.
In order to break these self-destructive patterns, I work with my clients to challenge their inner critics, to establish a sense of self-worth and safety, and to create better methods of coping. I also collaborate with health care providers, family members, and loved ones to help create an informed and supportive environment, optimal for sustainable growth.
Throw out the idea that you have to do this alone or that getting help is a sign of weakness. Recovery can only happen through meaningful and authentic connection. Your decision to seek out therapy is courageous. After all, choosing to accept help, to be vulnerable, and to confront your pain is not easy and will get uncomfortable at times. Are you ready?
