I provide expertly tailored therapy for adults facing anxiety - including worry, panic, OCD, health anxiety, perinatal anxiety, phobias and more.
Life long worrier? Start here. I'm an anxiety specialist (worry, panic, OCD, phobias, social, health) and I'd love to help you feel better. Are you feeling exhausted by your looping thoughts? Always tense, crabby or weepy? Maybe you're avoiding people or resisting a change. Perhaps you're intensely worried about your health or a terrible thought you can't shake or frustrating loved ones with your inflexibility. You're feeling frazzled, emotionally fried. You're here because it's time to push back in a way that works. You're ready to connect to the joy and meaning in your life, instead of working so hard to escape stress and anxiety.

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

I am also on staff in the OCD program at MGH and am on faculty at Harvard Medical School.
Most people with emotional disorders such as OCD, anxiety and depression suffer for years before getting the help they deserve. As a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist, I specialize in treating emotional disorders with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is the gold standard treatment for OCD and related disorders (e.g., BDD, hair-pulling, skin-picking), anxiety (e.g., social, panic, phobias, GAD), and depression.

Waitlist for new clients
I intend to do these all in my time with you, whether for OCD or another struggle you’re having.
Not accepting new clients-waitlist- telehealth only! Hello! I’m Katie, and I look forward to supporting you. My specialty is working with adults who are struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder ( OCD). I also enjoy supporting those dealing with other anxiety disorders and depression. OCD is often unrecognized for what it is, as it can take a lot of different forms. Some indicators are recurrent doubts about whether one has done a certain action or about who they are at their core, significant trouble moving past certain unsettling thoughts/urges, and having to do something a certain way to "make up" for unnerving thoughts/urges.

My areas of focus include but are not limited to: anxiety, OCD, sexual concerns, identity confusion, fear, and PTSD.
Suddenly feeling unlike yourself or realizing you don’t know who you are can be painful and confusing. Hiding parts of yourself only adds to the struggle. If you’re grappling with fear, feeling stuck, or barely holding it together, learning to manage the challenges and and mend what’s been hurting you can become an opportunity for growth and lead you on a new and unexpected path.

Welcome and thank you for reading further. Since even prior to the Pandemic, it seems life has become much more stressful for children, adolescents and adults but mental health awareness has improved. If you or your child are struggling with anxiety/social anxiety, AD(H)D, OCD, depression, significant loss/bereavement, have experienced trauma, feeling pressure to be perfect, feeling disconnected in your relationships, or in general feeling you've lost perspective of where you want to or are supposed to be at this point in your life, I would like to be of assistance. I have been successfully treating all of these conditions and more.

Lastly, I work with women that have pre- and post-partum depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis.
To be human is to have joy and struggle. That being said, sometimes when people make every effort to do their best in life, they still have hard times for many reasons. Sometimes people seek out a professional counselor for help with mental health issues, substance abuse issues or other aspects of life that are difficult to manage alone. Hopefully, by engaging in counseling you will get help in developing and meeting your individual goals and finding solutions to many facets of life that have been difficult, e.g., mental health, life transitions, grief, etc.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
