For my work with couples and families, I use relationship-informed therapeutic modalities, including the Gottman couples method, Imago communication tools, and family systems theory.
I love helping clients who feel stuck with anxiety, depression, or trauma become “unstuck.” In my therapy space, I strive to create a supportive environment for people to explore their emotions – and the experiences that shaped those emotions. With individuals, couples, and families, I work collaboratively to understand how previous dynamics, especially with families of origin, contribute to their current thoughts and coping skills. When clients understand how their past relationships influence their current selves, they are better able to build new futures, with greater self-acceptance, growth, new skills, and overall happiness.

My style is open, exploratory, inquisitive, and I draw from a variety of different theoretical orientations including psychodynamic, internal family systems, sensorimotor, cognitive-behavioral, solution focused, Imago, and motivational interviewing.
The transformational “magic” in therapy occurs when an alliance develops between therapist and client—when you feel truly seen, heard, and understood. I am here to listen deeply and journey alongside you as we discover ways to help you to get beyond patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you and move into a more hopeful, satisfying, and life-affirming future. Over the years, I've worked with couples, families, and individuals to address issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, family conflict, grief/loss, trauma, school issues, sexual orientation, aging, infertility, pregnancy, and self-esteem.

I am a Certified Imago Therapist and am passionate about working with couples of all kinds. I help couples live out their wildest dreams for themselves and their relationships. Maybe your relationship/marriage is in crisis or failing. Maybe it's stagnant or full of conflict and, sensing this, your children are beginning to act out in ways that baffle you. Maybe you have become overwhelmed by parenthood and wonder how you and your spouse have managed to drift so far apart and feel so frantic and disconnected. My sessions focus on couples' strengths and resources rather than pathology.

With a relational-cultural foundation, I draw on my training in Imago, narrative, interpersonal, CBT and DBT.
Life can be hard – it brings us times of feeling alone, scared, sad, ashamed, and uncertain. Therapy can provide us with more choices and more control when life becomes hard. Working together, we will create a safe, affirming, collaborative space where you can heal and grow. For individuals, this means exploring the story of your life so far and considering what would help you move towards the life you would like to be leading. For couples, this means aiding you to meet the challenges in your relationship in new ways and helping you to experience deeper connection, clarity, and joy.

The emotional connection between you and your partner has diminished. The intimacy, the fun, and the joy seem to have gone away. Conflict has increased with little or no resolution. A feeling of loneliness has taken residence in the relationship. The demands of your careers and life, in general, seem to leave little time and energy to invest in each other. Both of you are often overwhelmed, feel alone, and have your feelings ignored by one another. You fluctuate between feeling angry and sad. “When did we l ose our connection, and how can we get it back?” you wonder.

Instead of fighting problems together, you’re now fighting each other. You don’t know when this happened but you no longer feel connected to and loved by your partner, and there are days when you find yourself thinking if maybe it would be better to just end your relationship. This isn’t the relationship you wanted, you feel like you’ve tried to do everything to make it better and it either helped for some time or not at all.

Imago Therapists
How does Imago therapy work?
Imago relationship therapy is a form of couples counseling meant to help partners address conflict, communication problems, and related issues. Imago sessions typically involve couples sitting facing each other and participating in guided conversations. Therapy will also involve exercises such as re-imagining one’s partner as a wounded child; re-romanticizing a relationship through appreciation, surprises, and even gift-giving and restructuring frustrations by transforming complaints into requests. The ultimate goal is to re-envision the relationship as a source of safety and happiness.
What is the Imago method?
A core technique of Imago therapy is the Imago dialogue, in which partners learn to avoid hurtful statements and establish ways to interact based on each having equal space and power. In the dialogue, partners take turns as the “sender,” who shares their thoughts, and the “receiver.” The receiver is asked to “mirror,” or paraphrase, what their partner has said, without response or rebuttal, and then validate their statements, acknowledging understanding even if they do not personally agree with it. Finally, the receiver displays empathy by stating what they imagine the other is feeling, and showing appreciation for it.
How long does Imago therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for Imago therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core techniques of Imago coaching, some couples quickly make progress, but most should expect sessions to extend for months, encompassing at least 12 to 20 sessions, along with extensive “homework” from their therapist.
Does Imago therapy work?
There is limited empirical evidence to support the benefits of Imago therapy, but some smaller studies suggest that it does help couples, at least in the short-term. A 2017 study found that marital satisfaction increased significantly after couples completed 12 sessions of Imago therapy, and remained higher for some time after that, but did not always result in “complete recovery.” Other studies found greater empathy and fewer feelings of relationship burnout in couples after therapy. Some research suggests that Imago therapy can aid individuals as well as couples; people with ADHD in particular may benefit from the development of communication, self-control, and listening skills that form the basis of the technique.
