My areas of clinical specialties include, but are not limited to, trauma and PTSD, addiction/dual-diagnosis, adjustment difficulties, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem.
Are you feeling distressed, unexplained irritability, stressed, sadness or fearful? These can be signs of trauma. Trauma can appear big or small to the outside observer, but it affects each person differently. Often times seemingly "small traumas" can have a monumental impact on our life and ability to experience happiness. I have been working with teens and adults for 10 years. I integrate various research- based interventions to tailor treatment based on individual needs. My approach works well with people who embrace change and also with those who may be resistant to it.

I like to give feedback to folks and feel that therapy is a process to help create change. My ideal patient is someone who is motivated to work on their problems, is flexible, has a sense of humor, and knows that the therapist does not have all the answers.

I specialize in grief and loss, addiction, codependency, and life transitions.
My ideal client is willing to start the exciting but sometimes challenging journey to finding themselves. I love to work with folks who make the active decision to start therapy, even if they do not have a concrete goal in mind. I can certainly assist a client who does not have a specific goal in finding something they want to address. My ideal client would be willing to reflect on themselves, their lives, and their choices, and they would be willing to work collaboratively with me to either maintain or change their path.

I'm happy to be a part of your journey to internal understanding, acceptance and growth. Many times we approach therapy from an overwhelming place. We may find ourselves repeating painful patterns that do not bring us enjoyment and satisfaction. My goal is to put you first while implementing evidence based practices, to guide you to reach your goals. Whether that looks like depression, anxiety, substance use, self-harm, suicidal ideations, family conflict, or something else; I am here to help.

An ideal client would be an adult, mental health/substance use disorder, with a desire to change. Family involvement is so important so I would hope they would have emphasis on that and willingness to have them involved. Ultimately I love when someone is internally driven to change, but as a therapist we meet the clients where they are. Internally motivated, externally motivated, and sometimes neither. I don't discriminate and am willing to help essentially anyone.

I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship issues.
At some point in our lives, we all experience difficulties. I have experience with successfully treating anxiety, depression, worry, irritability and relationship issues. This does not have to define a person. Instead, we can focus on our strengths to change what we need to live happy, productive lives. Everyone's journey is unique and I will follow your lead, and we will work at your pace. Therapy should be tailored to your needs and goals. I realize beginning the process of therapy can feel overwhelming and that finding the right therapist can be even more difficult. Thank you for considering me in this process.

My ideal client would be an individual who is ambivalent relative to the need for change. They may not see the relationship between their issues and their behaviors. This client may have legal, employment and family impairment. The individual wants to be meaningfully employed and have trust in their loving relationships. However, the individual views their substance abuse or alcohol issues as secondary and attributes impairment in the domains mentioned above to external situations, people or events. They do not see their role or personal responsibility in their issues.

My Ideal client: 36 yo male, divorced, with two children. The patient was incarcerated 16 years, due to drug addiction/trafficking. He spent his early childhood living with his mother and father, who sexually abused him. They were also addicted to drugs due to their childhood experiences of being abused. The patient's parents also prostituted him in exchange for drugs for others. The patient turned to drugs to escape the pain, embarrassment, and overall trauma from his childhood. He now wants sobriety and to overcome his trauma, which includes flashbacks and negative self-image, self-hatred, and hatred of his parents.

No matter if you're grappling with substance use, anxiety, depression, or the effects of trauma.
My ideal patient is someone who engages fully with me during our entire 60-minute session. They are open to suggestions and eager to try new approaches to their treatment. This patient understands that therapy is about progress, not perfection, and recognizes that sometimes the process may unfold more slowly than anticipated. I hope for a patient who maintains open communication with me, feels comfortable sharing anything that troubles them, and knows they will never be judged.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
