Among them are cognitive-behavioral therapy, attachment theory, narrative frameworks, and systems approaches.
I believe that as unique individuals we should all be appreciated and understood from several angles - social, biological, psychological, cultural, and sometimes spiritual - to get the best sense of who we are as complete people. This requires a focus not just on our problems and challenges but also on our strengths and resources. These aspects of our identities color the way we give meaning to our past, our future, our relationships, and our struggles. Psychotherapy should be a process that recognizes these factors while creating a safe, caring, and creative atmosphere to provide treatment based on sound theory and research.

It takes so much courage to begin the process of change! By utilizing Dialectaical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), self-psychology and a relational approach, I believe in a model of full recovery. I also believe that you can't feel good about your self if you don't know who that SELF is. This approach tends to gives you the support necessary to help break the cycles of maladaptive behaviors and live the change you want to see in your life.

My approach is strength-based and draws from many principles, including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and solutions-focused therapy.
It requires a lot of strength and courage to ask for help. Reaching out can be scary and unsettling, but you don't have to do it alone. I acknowledge what it took for you to seek help, and want to provide a safe, warm and comfortable environment for you to talk and open up. A strong therapeutic alliance is the key in ensuring honest, open, and constructive communication. In my sessions, I like to work together as two experts tackling your problems. I am direct, interactive, and genuine and will always be honest and upfront with you.

The trainings that I have allow me to utilize cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, behavioral modifications, psychodynamic, integrative nutrition and animal assisted therapy.
Using a integrative style, I work with my clients in order to help them explore the social, emotional, biological, nutritional, and intellectual factors that are impeding them. My primary goal as a therapist is to build warm relationships characterized by acceptance and humor. I find that it is empowering for my clients to take an active role in creating our work together, whether that is short-term treatment targeting a specific problem, or more in-depth work.

As a cognitive-behavioral psychologist, I help clients understand how thoughts directly impact feelings and behaviors. Clients and I will work together to identify the automatic thoughts that accompany feelings such as anxiety, sadness, frustration, and anger. When we're anxious or upset our thoughts are often inaccurate and overly negative. When we start listening to these thoughts we can learn to replace them with more accurate and constructive ones, ultimately resulting in more positive feelings and behaviors.

I utilize evidence-based approaches (mindfulness, ACT, CBT, ERP and Gottman Couples Therapy) to help clients accept and overcome thoughts and behaviors that block creativity and meaning.
I believe that we all have the power to change our lives by identifying and connecting with our true values and letting this guide our actions instead of our fears. Clients who suffer from depression, anxiety, and trauma related symptoms can learn how to shift their focus from negative thoughts and behaviors toward a more fulfilling relationship with themselves and others. Utilizing a trauma-informed and mindful approach I help clients develop their own treatment goals and make lasting behavioral and emotional changes.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
