I work with adults to address issues related to anxiety, depression, chronic pain, substance use and relationship difficulties.
I am currently accepting new clients. Finding your therapist is a search I consider with great care. I imagine you may desire someone you can trust, to validate your struggles, and to help you find ways to navigate the pain you are experiencing. My priority is to be there for you in these ways, and further to understand your concerns, and needs, by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. I want you to feel empowered in our sessions, so that you may accomplish your goals, and moreso be curious and brave in viewing your experiences from new perspectives, to help you heal, and grow.

I'm NOT taking new clients right now....Creating emotional intelligence involves many things: understanding mood changes and why certain circumstances create anxiety; communicating better in relationships and expressing feelings more positively; building skills as a parent or understanding what it means to go from couple to family. If we are in transition, in gender or in life purpose, we want to create a firmer sense of identity and direction. We want insight and the ability to create a future unbound to a traumatic past. We want to create new patterns of behavior and thinking that enhance our connection to others.

There is not a singular source to our suffering. Turmoil can originate in, and travel through, our bodies, minds, communities, families, and sociopolitical systems. Often, we respond to inner turmoil in two extreme ways. We may excessively worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous or distressing, or say 'it is hopeless,' and check out. Therapy can help us gain access to our grief and pain while developing the wisdom that comes with renewed commitment to our lives.

I have specialized training in CBT and in helping people with anxiety, stress, pre- and postpartum changes, chronic illness, and insomnia.
Are you feeling completely drained - physically or emotionally? Maybe you can’t even remember the last time you felt well rested and stress-free. Living with stress, anxiety, fertility struggles, postpartum changes, cancer, or insomnia is hard enough but doing it while trying to manage all your other responsibilities can be draining. You may sometimes find yourself worrying about things you never used to even think about. The sadness you feel at times can make it hard to imagine reading a book, going out with friends, cooking a healthy meal, working out, sitting through another school play, or telling your partner about your day.

I recognize how challenging it can be to know how to best recognize and support your own needs. Sometimes school, work, relationships, and other life stressors/transitions can become so overwhelming that we feel lost or stuck in our tracks. During these times, it is helpful to have someone who will work collaboratively and therapeutically with you to help you address your concerns, gain insight into your thoughts and feelings, and restore your sense of balance and "wholeness" back into your life.

It is easy to get overwhelmed with life and it's day to day challenges.Sometimes all it takes to make things easier, is someone to listen and help us see things from a different perspective. Asking for help at a difficult time is not easy. I value the opportunity to work with my clients to provide support and direction during challenging times.

I'm an LMHC specializing in women’s mental health, though I work with individuals of all backgrounds, genders, and identities. With 15+ years in biotech/research, and experience as a Reiki Master, Polarity Practitioner, and licensed Massage Therapist, I blend science with holistic approaches to help clients manage stress, anxiety, depression, and recover from trauma. I believe mental health challenges often stem from external pressures, not personal fault. I create a safe space to uncover root causes, replace self-criticism with compassion, and turn evidence-based insights into a flexible path for sustainable growth.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
