I have over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist including much experience with anxiety, parenting issues and supporting people making pregnancy decisions.
I have weekday/daytime openings (M,W,F) for female clients. I think of the work I do as looking at the past while mindfully living in the present. That is, exploring ways to deal with current stresses/symptoms, while also exploring the underlying causes of these painful issues. We can't change what we think or what we feel but we can work on how to handle thoughts and feelings more effectively so they don't have so much impact and influence on us. I help people identify their values and work with them on living those values despite the current situation or circumstances.

Picking a therapist is a very personal choice. You need to feel that your therapist understands your experience, your challenges and moves you a new way of seeing yourself and your strengths. I provide psychotherapy for adults and couples. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and relationship challenges. For couples, I use the Gottman Method to assess couple relational strengths and to target learning new ways to communicate and build connection and intimacy.

Do you find yourself being attracted to romantic partners that leave you feeling unsupported and unloved, smothered and engulfed, or with whom you lose your identity? I have been very successful in assisting people with identifying patterns of behavior, attachment style, and communication issues that may have become ingrained and habitual. And then work to develop new ways of relating that are more effective and satisfying, and increase one's ability to be securely attached, comfortable with both intimacy and individuation in healthier relationships. Do you struggle with anxiety or depression, low self-esteem or lack of assertiveness?

Together we can retrain your brain, reframe your negative self-talk, overcome mental road blocks, improve communication, decrease anxiety and improve your overall mental health and sport performance.
Are sports more mental or physical? It's not an either or, but a BALANCE. Sport is played with the body, but won with the mind. Encountering feelings of anxiety, perfectionism, poor self-esteem and depression are all common. According to a 2019 study, up to 35% of elite athletes suffer from a mental health crisis that may be displayed as stress, eating disorders, burn out, or depression and anxiety. High achievers who are under constant scrutiny can experience negative thinking, anxiety and self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy.

I am the right psychologist for people seeking a therapy experience that feels kind, warm, thoughtful, and validating, while also being smart, meaningful, mindfully-structured, and effective with actual real-world gains and measurable progress along the way. The structure/format of treatment is grounded in evidence-based medical science but is flexible and adapted to the personal style of individual clients. I am unmistakably "on your side" and will never shame you. I do hold my clients accountable and will not enable modes of thinking & behaving that are harmful. But I provide such feedback in a caring and compassionate manner

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
