As psychotherapist, coach, and career counselor, I'm committed to helping you find wholeness through cognitive, insight-oriented, behavioral, mind-body and mindfulness approaches. I have worked for over three decades assisting clients with both the practical and emotional issues change often requires. During Covid-19 you may decide to focus on: contingency planning if your organization should fold; work on your resume; ramping up virtual networking; learning additional stress management techniques; support with emotional challenges; creative ways to deal with isolation and loneliness.

People often ask me, "What is the purpose of therapy?" I believe there are a few answers to that question. First, you come to therapy to defrost grief, unexpressed rage and other negative feelings, e.g. traumas, losses, betrayals. You also learn to re-parent yourself. Second, you come to have a better transition in your work or love life, or to improve your performance and personal relations. Finally, you get to share your dreams and goals in a safe environment, with no judgment, and to produce amazing action plans to manifest your best life ever.

You may be wondering if therapy can help you feel better or help you find a path that works better than the one you're on now. With a therapist with whom you feel comfortable, hopeful and understood, the answer is often 'yes'.

My training includes traditional psychodynamic, wholistic, and transpersonal psychotherapy.
I'm excited to announce I've transitioned 75% of my work to serve as the Clinical Director of The Center for Healing Journeys (wneketamine.com), the first Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) clinic in western New England. KAP is a powerful effective new treatment using the only legal, by-prescription psychedelic. 20 years of research has proven ketamine to be safe in the clinic, and brings robust recovery from neuro-rigidified disorders such as intractable Depression, OCD, PTSD, Suicidal Ideation, and ruminative anxiety disorder: 70-80% success with most disorders and 85%+ combined with therapy. Clinic website: wneketamine.com

My theoretical orientation can be described as Integral, an approach that's based on the work of Ken Wilber and best fits under the transpersonal label.
I approach each client with the assumption that you are coming to me with an intention to alleviate discontentment or suffering. I see my job as helping you articulate your reasons for seeking therapy, to understand the source of your issues, and to find strategies that bring relief. My style is interactive, with an emphasis on caring and supportive feedback. I expect the client to establish the agenda for each session, trusting that the client knows best what needs to be addressed in any given session. I emphasize psychoeducation about the role of, and differences between, thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

At the core of my approach to holistic mental health and life coaching is a deep knowing that each person has an innate capacity for healing, happiness, and thriving in all aspects of life - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. When we honor the wholeness of our being and integrate all of these dimensions, we naturally open to greater well-being.

Suffering results from our disconnection from our self, our bodies, friends, families and world and the Divine. This may manifest as anxiety, depression or other difficulties depending on an individual's in-born biology and life experiences. I work collaboratively with each individual according to their needs and desires. I am most interested in facilitating lasting change at the deepest level.

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
