As individuals or in the context of a relationship, we are always trying to make meaning of our lives, decide what is essential to us, and think about the path we are on. Of course, in life there are challenges along the way or worse which interfere. And then we are affected emotionally and can become disillusioned. Anyone can get lost for a time, and feel confused, upset or stuck. In our relationships, we experience conflict and communication struggles, and sometimes get locked into repeated and unwanted patterns. At times, we might ask: "Am I living the life I want; is there something more for me or for us? How do I/we change?

I also like to help people improve their relationship with themselves and others through increased self-compassion and communication skills.
If you or your family members are experiencing depression, anxiety or relationship issues, whether from a painful or traumatic history or more recent difficulties, I would like to help. Through talking we begin to understand, become less alone with our pain, and build a bridge to recovery. I welcome working with adults from diverse backgrounds, from various cultures and at different points in their healing process. My method is to blend the more traditional psychodynamic approach with concrete strategies. The tools I use are mostly derived from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems Model (IFS), and EMDR.

I am experienced in treating people suffering from a range of problems, including, depression, anxiety, identity struggles, problems with thinking and attention, school and career difficulties and family and relationship struggles.
As a psychologist and psychoanalyst, I aim to help patients understand the trouble in their lives and make significant changes. I believe it is important to take the time to get to know patients' stories. My approach is both collaborative and challenging. Sometimes this involves helping people look at parts of themselves that are painful, or hard to see clearly. Many patients benefit from long-term, intensive therapy, while others find that shorter-term therapy helps them solve immediate problems.

I am interested in the body/mind relationship and transforming negative thoughts/feelings to positive thoughts/feelings to live a more peaceful, fulfilling and personally powerful life.
I am always curious about how we become who we are and as someone once told me, “A person who enters therapy is an experience that wants to happen not a problem to be solved.” My focus is to encourage people to stay curious and open to possibilities of learning more about themselves, creating a supportive safe environment that supports positive movement and change. I stress the importance seeing oneself fully, psychologically, physically and spiritually. All these are important ways of supporting one’s life. I see myself as warm, present, accessible and being of help to accomplish this.

Our wounds and losses occur in relationships past/present, and it is in relationship that true healing also occurs.
It is not uncommon to realize we are living lives we never planned on. We may be in an active crisis, or a life transition, or we may realize that we are stuck, or that things are just not working. Often, present-day challenges can be traced back to old patterns of relating, perceiving, understanding, and behaving. I help my clients identify and understand old patterns, and then develop greater flexibility in how they relate and respond. I work with them to adopt new practices which will allow them to move away from impasses and towards lives that are more fulfilling, productive and connected.

With over two decades of experience, I have worked with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, grief/loss, cross cultural concerns, & transitions in older age.
Most of us do the best we can with the resources we have. Sometimes we think no one understands our worries & fears. If open to it, we want to work with a therapist when our usual ways of relating aren't helping & we feel stuck, anxious, angry or depressed. Therapy often helps provide insight into our strengths & internal resources we already have to help navigate challenging times. In sessions, I focus on working with clients to unlock this strength to steer their lives in the direction they want. I bring curiosity, warmth, respect, & empathy to my sessions.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
