Painful emotions and situations are part of our experience as humans. At times we can feel like our emotions, thoughts, or life circumstances are in control of us rather than the other way around. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship or confidence issues, avoidance, or perfectionism, I'm here to help. My style is collaborative, genuine, and focused on helping you to develop a life that feels more meaningful and rewarding. Together, we will work to understand and overcome the challenges and roadblocks in life that are causing you to suffer so you can go on to build a richer, fuller life for yourself.

"The true warrior accepts what he (she) is in ultimate humility, not as grounds for regret, but as a living challenge" - Carlos Casteneda. Treatment issues require an empathic listener. I am most effective in connecting with clients. I see a therapist's role as supporting clients in their grief and helping them identify realistic expectations of self /others in a non-judgemental and affirming atmosphere. My undergraduate degree was Anthropology, helping me at cross cultural problem solving. Employment in Community Mental Health and inpatient hospital care settings I have worked with medical/psychiatric difficulties:

Currently in my practice I use an evidenced based type of therapy that has been embraced for years. Compassion based therapy provides the client with a total acceptance and validation for their well being. People who experience them may struggle to feel relieved, reassured or safe. Research suggests that a specialized affect regulation system (or systems) underpins feelings of reassurance, safeness and well being. It is believed to have evolved with attachment and in particular, the ability to register and respond with calming and a sense of well being to being cared for.

Being acknowledged, heard, and validated are important factors in feeling understood. Daily life situations can produce many wonderful things. But life is also challenging and difficult with many heartaches and uncertainties along the way. No matter what obstacles are presented in the journey of life, I believe having the appropriate support can provide the spark needed to break through barriers to move forward in finding happiness and peace in life. My goal for every individual I work with is to strengthen resiliency and self-acceptance.

Therapy is about you, it can help you learn to take control of your life and respond to challenging situations in new and satisfying ways. When you are feeling sad or anxious, having difficulty with relationships and important life choices, psychotherapy may be helpful by exploring strategies for managing anxiety or depression, reducing relationship tensions or couples conflicts, and coping skills for daily stress. The therapeutic relationship creates a unique safe space, I view it as a collaboration an environment where we can work together in an environment of mutual trust.

Why does this generation need so much therapy? This statement alone can make us feel broken, unheard, or defective in some way. The truth is, there is nothing wrong with us. The future of therapy is breaking down generational behaviors and faulty ways of thinking that are often at the root of trauma, stress, anxiety and depression. How do we do that? From my experience, a lot of anxiety and depression is rooted in how we perceive the world and ourselves. Shifting that perspective to one that validates our experiences while also empowering us to be who we want to be is a fundamental cornerstone of self empowerment and growth.

Seeking therapy for the first time is one of the hardest things when so many of us are already overwhelmed with busy schedules and are unfamiliar with the process. We often ask ourselves do I have time for one more appointment? Our mental health is just as important to our physical counterpart to remain healthy!

Whether you're feeling depressed, anxious, hopeless, or irritable, making that first call for help can be hard. You desperately want to feel better, but you're afraid of what it will be like to share your thoughts with a therapist. I understand. My guiding principles are respect, appreciation of differences, and a balance between acceptance and change. I listen carefully and center the therapy around your needs.

Do you find it hard to put yourself first in your relationships? Does it some times feel that no matter how hard you try, you struggle to find joy in every day life? Self care is so important for each person and if we neglect ourselves to care for others, we may have increases in depression and anxiety. Asking for help when things begin to feel overwhelming is the first step in finding the solution. Utilizing my years of training and experience, I have been able to help others “find themselves”, so that they can find the joy they so much deserve once again.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
