Perhaps you feel discouraged and are seeking therapy because you have tried to make changes but haven’t noticed a difference. Maybe you continue to be impacted by overwhelming events from the past. You could be reaching out because you’re experiencing anxiety, sadness, disconnection from others, or difficulty with navigating life transitions and managing stress. Maybe you’ve noticed your child is having a hard time and are reaching out on their behalf. You may want to build up your self esteem and have more fulfilling relationships, or to feel more connected to yourself, to grow, and to enjoy life.

I work with adults on a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, life/career transitions, and relationship problems. My interactive, direct and collaborative style helps clients understand the cause of their issues and gives them practical tools to alleviate symptoms. While I tailor my therapeutic approach to each patient, I draw most heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is a well-researched approach to effectively treat many presenting concerns.

We all face challenges, whether it’s with relationships, loss and grief, illness, parenting issues, work-life balance, or the realization that we may not be reaching our full potential at work, school, or home. We often develop problem-solving strategies but may encounter roadblocks in our quest to overcome our challenges. Seeking guidance from a therapist to examine & refine our approach could be a step toward living a happier, more productive & meaningful life, one that is consistent with our values. I recognize that asking for help and being open to change requires strength & courage, and choosing the right therapist is crucial.

I consider it an honor to guide people on their journey through this life, to help them release old patterns of thought, feeling and behavior that interfere with their sense of well-being and wholeness, resolve the effects of lingering pain and/or past trauma, explore what is important and meaningful in their lives, and find new purpose and depth in themselves and in their relationship to the world around them. If you find yourself lost, in your relationships and/or your life, in a world that makes little sense, we can find a path and way of being that feels right for you in the most fulfilling way.

My goal is to support and guide you into living your best life. I believe in the inherent ability of all of us to change and grow if we are motivated, educated, and supported. I will help you find and develop your strengths and investigate new strategies for healing and growth. At some point we all experience life's stressors; I have particular experience helping people move through depression, life changes, grief, loss, workplace issues, anxiety and fertility challenges. I also enjoy working with people in recovery from alcohol misuse. I also do well helping people in their mid-late twenties navigate their challenges.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
