I value the importance of a holistic approach, considering medical and developmental history, as well as social & psychological factors, especially when dealing with anxiety & depression.
We all face challenges, whether it’s with relationships, loss and grief, illness, parenting issues, work-life balance, or the realization that we may not be reaching our full potential at work, school, or home. We often develop problem-solving strategies but may encounter roadblocks in our quest to overcome our challenges. Seeking guidance from a therapist to examine & refine our approach could be a step toward living a happier, more productive & meaningful life, one that is consistent with our values. I recognize that asking for help and being open to change requires strength & courage, and choosing the right therapist is crucial.

I have had thorough training in eating disorders, life transitions, anxiety and depression.
Are thoughts about your life's stressors getting in the way of your goals? Are you struggling to get through the day without thinking about food or your body? If you are reading this, you may be contemplating taking that first step to receive support. Setting up an initial therapy appointment can be scary; I hope to ease the stress of the process, while working with you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

We all go through challenging times and it takes a great deal of courage to face these challenges and move forward. My passion is working with adults of all ages who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, a life transition, a loss or an illness. I work with each of my clients to identify tools and strategies that they can use to address these difficulties, feel better, and lead a more fulfilling life in whatever way they hope to. I believe that each person has inner strength and resilience that they can increase, and that you are stronger than you think.

You can reduce the anxiety and depression.
There are long, lost fears and often past traumas at play in all of us. Some surface, wreaking havoc with our lives. They can appear as grief, depression, anxiety or crisis. Others remain dormant and can surface at all the wrong times. You may appear successful, but despite your accomplishments, you are not happy or it seems like others are happier than you. Your personal relationships are not satisfying in the way you expected. Why is happiness still elusive? The uncertainty and stress of the past three years have put pressures on us which have frequently brought the worst in life to the surface.

I love working with adolescents, young adults, and adults, and have experience treating depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD.
I love working with cycle breakers who are approaching burnout, who are done feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from their unique selves. My clients are learners, thinkers and healers, who appreciate understanding themselves, who strive to have deeper and more meaningful relationships, and who want to make a positive impact on the world and take responsibility for the trajectory of their lives. I believe that each client has their own unique strength and spark, and I actively build a safe space for therapy that also includes room for joy, creativity and laughter.

I treat depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, infertility, women's issues and life transitions.
I provide clients with a safe, supportive & respectful therapy/coaching experience. I’m there to listen. They can share “stories, past, present, life stresses/transition, mental health issues, family/couples goals” etc. I build upon clients strengths as we work together to achieve their goals. As a therapist & life coach I strive to provide my clients with a positive experience. Treatment concludes with them feeling better about themselves & having met "their goals”. The passion I felt when chose this field, early on in high school, still remains:). Through challenging times I’m grateful to be here, to help those in need.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
