I have worked extensively with clients who have sought support for their anxiety, depression, eating disorder, family issues, relationship issues, transition to adulthood, and many others.
My approach to therapy comes from a person centered lens and systems approach. In short, this means I approach every person that I have the honor to work with as the experts on their own lives and the many factors that effect their overall well-being. I approach every client with curiosity and unconditional positive regard and will hopeful help them to see themselves through this view as well. In session, patients can expect typical talk therapy with principles of behavior change techniques weaved in to provide some tools to meet their personal goals.

Particular areas of interest and experience for me include trauma, women's issues, empowerment and self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, multiculturalism, and transitioning to college and adult life.
Life is messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, and hopeful. So is the process of change. To be honest about this takes courage and vulnerability. It is also the first step in the process of personal transformation. By working with me, you do me the honor of sharing these experiences for the purpose of healing and personal growth. I believe in a collaborative model of therapy that is centered on your experiences and relational. By sharing together from a place of authenticity my goal is to listen, support, and challenge you in order to face and overcome obstacles standing between you and the fullness of the life you were meant to live.

Your outcome from the therapeutic process is highly dependent upon the relationship you co-create with the therapist.
Success has been defined as happiness in our professional and personal lives. Sometimes we struggle in one or both areas, hindered by feelings of disappointment, frustration, anger or sadness. Things can be different; it is possible to live a meaningful, happy life. In psychotherapy and psychoanalysis you have the opportunity to look closely at your life. The intention of this thoughtful examination is to reduce the discrepancy between the life you have and the life you want.

As a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience, I want to understand you as a whole person with strengths as well as current difficulties. If you are looking for a therapist, it is generally because many efforts you have made to solve a problem haven't worked. You may be faced with a very difficult and painful situation, such as a relationship problem, loss, job problem, or illness. Or, you may be experiencing symptoms which are associated with emotional distress, such as chronic anxiety, social anxiety, or depression.

My style is warm and active (I ask questions and give feedback), while really using our relationship as one of our change 'tools'.
By interweaving different types of therapy, we collaborate towards your goals in a way that's effective and respectful of your time, energy and money. Each session can be useful - I track this carefully by asking for feedback and by giving choices on how we work together. The time in-between sessions also is used - through practice 'homework' we choose individually, as a couple or as a family, or through observation/thinking. This helps us to identify what helps you to change or restrains you from change - we can then work together from an attitude of curiosity rather than "shoulds".

When you’ve been managing anxiety, depression, or mood swings, it can feel like life is just happening to you. Or that you’re treading water, unable to swim to shore. Managing a health issue, a challenging relationship or trauma is tough. So are major life changes like marriage, divorce, parenthood, loss, illness, or a career change. Navigating these emotions and experiences is difficult to do alone. And when you’re feeling vulnerable, it’s not easy to ask for help. When you receive support from an experienced professional who is committed to helping you, you can finally stop treading water, begin to heal, and get to shore.

My therapeutic style is grounded in existential/humanistic, relational, and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) modalities to assist clients through the processes of change - taking an open-dialogue, collaborative approach to the therapeutic relationship.
When life presents challenges that are too difficult to manage on one's own, it's helpful to collaborate with a psychotherapist to create change that is both tangible and meaningful. Over the course of more than 20 years of practice, I've had the privilege of working with individuals, groups, families and couples from a wide array of backgrounds. I embrace the importance and uniqueness of diverse cultural backgrounds that influence one's life. My approach is best described as: interactive, compassionate, humorous, nonjudgmental and respectful.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
