What if your past pain is quietly shaping your children’s future? As a parent, you want to give them a life full of love, safety, and opportunity. Yet, the wounds of trauma may still linger, making you feel triggered by your child’s behavior, overwhelmed by guilt, or burdened by anxiety and frustration. Moments that should be joyful can be overshadowed by the weight of your past hurts. You’re not alone. Many parents with trauma share these fears, wondering if their love can overcome the shadows of their past and if their children will be free from the emotional scars they’ve worked so hard to hide. It doesn't have to be this way.

Are you struggling with anxiety? Do you notice holding yourself back and not going for what you want and what matters to you? Are you limiting yourself to what feels safe and letting opportunities pass you by? Are you more inhibited and more self-judgmental and less balanced, so that experiencing joy is a rare occasion? Do you want to make a change so you can cope better with whatever is giving you anxiety and feel more balanced, active, and courageous but you're not sure how to do that? Are you sick of hearing other people telling you to "just do it"? - You're not alone and there is a way to move forward. Feeling well is possible.

CBT really works! Especially when you are working with a trained and experienced therapist. I hold advanced certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and use this approach exclusively. Together we will work to improve your insight, mood and motivation. You will learn what influences your mood and decision-making, and how ways of thinking and doing can lead to feeling stuck and hopeless. In addition to CBT, I can teach you powerful skills to improve distress tolerance and emotional regulation. These are skills you will learn to use now, and can rely on in the future.

Do you feel disconnected and overwhelmed in your life? Today's stress can start to feel like it’s closing in on you. In your relationship, you may feel alone and wonder if you can ever reconnect. You might wonder if your family will ever stop fighting and just talk to each other again. You all used to have fun together - what changed? If you’re a health care provider or managing health concerns yourself, you may feel unsure how to manage the cumulative aspect of stress or find balance in your life.

I am confident in providing support in navigating life changes, complex health needs, grief, work stressors, parenting and relationships.
I love working with cycle breakers who are approaching burnout, who are done feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from their unique selves. My clients are learners, thinkers and healers, who appreciate understanding themselves, who strive to have deeper and more meaningful relationships, and who want to make a positive impact on the world and take responsibility for the trajectory of their lives. I believe that each client has their own unique strength and spark, and I actively build a safe space for therapy that also includes room for joy, creativity and laughter.

Are you a parent of a child who is struggling? Do you feel like you have to do it all? You don’t have to do this alone. Humans develop in relationship to others, and we heal that way too. My focus is on childrens’ relationships with their caregivers - from processing challenging life events to managing hard feelings. The children I work with may be struggling with worry about friendships and family relationships, challenges with big emotions, doubts about their worth or appearance, academic difficulties, or navigating grief and loss. I support children in navigating these and many other challenging realities of growing up.

Parent testimony: "I recommend CPS to any family.
Being a parent can be enormously fulfilling, but can also be frustrating and overwhelming. As the mother of two children, I know firsthand that sometimes our kids can make it difficult to be the parent we always imagined we'd be. I work with parents to help them relate better to their unique child/teen, reduce challenging behavior, and build their child/teen's skills in frustration tolerance, flexibility, and problem-solving. I offer a radically different understanding of challenging kids and an effective, positive approach to parenting. Let me give you practical, concrete tools that will bring out the best in you and your child.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
