I provide psychotherapy without insurance involvement, personal consultation, and free resource leads for adults interested in personal growth/development. I enjoy working with creatives, cycle breakers, mourners, parents, and individuals exploring neurodiversity (diagnosed-self-identified-suspecting). Life at times can be challenging. Life transitions, parenting, marriage, relationships or unanticipated life events such as loss of a loved one, an illness, divorce, or job loss can feel overwhelming and difficult to manage. These challenges can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, isolation, self-doubt or result in unhealthy relationships or behaviors. Sometimes, a past or present trauma can start to feel disruptive or childhood issues can unknowingly impact the present. Therapy can help find a way to better cope with these challenges by learning how to manage overwhelming emotions and change negative beliefs that effect our relationships and well being.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is start to understand your own story. In therapy with me I prioritize our therapeutic alliance, while we work on your goals, as I understand how vulnerable and unique the therapy relationship is. I do this by using a warm and empathetic approach and honoring that trust gets built slowly over time. I also try to bring in humor when appropriate and further allow my clients to feel like an equal partner in their treatment. I know there is no one size fits all to therapy and I want to make sure you and your unique needs are at the forefront of our work together.

"I can't get no satisfaction." (Mick Jagger). I haven't met anyone who hasn't struggled with discontent at some point in their lives. "Discontent" not like annoyance when the TV remote stops working (!) - but, when it seems as if no matter how many back flips we do, we can't shake that feeling of inadequacy because we're unable to make someone (Mom/Dad/Children/Boss/Friend) happy; when we're feeling anxious, frustrated, powerless, or angry about a situation; or when we need another set of eyes to help us recognize how "good enough" we really are.

I don’t know exactly where I learned so much about human behavior, I think it was between the ages of 14 to 18 when after school I listened to the sad, frightening and unsavory troubles of adults who became my regular callers. The money was appreciated but I was more interested in giving the best advice I could. Post grade school I graduated Boston Latin School and then Boston College. I opened a chain of hair salons and heard more problems. I finished Cambridge College Graduate school with a Master's degree in Counseling and became a licensed MEd, LMHC. My work in a Psych hospital from the bottom to a Director led me here today!

I'm not sure I believe in an Ideal client; I think all clients are Ideal, no matter their life circumstances. Life is like a rollercoaster, and when you're going down, you may need someone to be there and help talk you through it. However, If I had to choose, it would be a client having difficulty with self-esteem, self-worth, and depressive symptoms and needing additional assistance building coping skills but expressing readiness to change.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
