Are problems getting in the way of your preferred way of being? Do you need a space to process complex emotions and relationships? Hi, I'm Lindsay Mason, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with individuals to identify the effects that problems are having in their lives. Especially the concerns no one talks about because of the stigma traditionally attached. I offer a judgement free, safe space to shift away from blame and address hopes, values and goals.

I specialize in helping Christian women integrate their faith into clinical practice and solutions. I am here to support and empower women who have lost their sense of self. There are many obstacles we encounter in life and sometimes it takes someone sitting with us and exploring what is making the mountain seem immovable. I specialize in helping set up goals and develop a path to achieve them. I enjoy working with married couples, to help them develop healthy ways to handle conflict, and also those trying to blend a family. Currently using EFT for couples as well! I also do premarital counseling for engaged couples.

Some days are better than others, but there’s an ongoing theme in your life of feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. You find yourself frequently worrying about how you will stay on top of all your responsibilities, and sometimes worrying about things that you know are out of your hands. When you stop and reflect, you know you used to have real closeness with your partner or other important people in your life, but it’s getting harder to remember that actual feeling. You’re drained by how much you seem to give of yourself but don’t feel hopeful about anything changing soon.

I specialize in three modalities: cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
My ideal client would be someone who is ready and willing to participate in treatment. I am comfortable with an array of different diagnoses and struggles. Their needs would include working towards tangible goals that we are able to breakdown in the treatment setting. They may want to work on self-esteem, depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms etc. They would want to minimize their symptoms and improve everyday functioning. The goal would ultimately be to no longer need treatment as they have reached their goals.

When working with individuals or couples, my style is eclectic and drawn from a variety of models including Structural and Narrative Family Therapy, various trauma models and CBT to adapt to your needs.
Starting therapy can be intimidating and why it is vital to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and safe. I view each person or family I work with as individuals and incorporate how relationships and environment impact daily functioning. The priority in treatment is supporting you to increase self-care, self-love, and guide you towards wellness and healing. As a LMFT I have had the opportunity to work with a myriad of mental health needs focusing on anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life stage changes, and the LGBT+ community.

I have been working as a psychotherapist for 16 years. I primarily saw individual clients in outpatient clinics until 2012, but I also developed an interest in working with couples since starting my private practice 13 years ago. Individual therapy still accounts for the majority of my client caseload, as I specialize in alleviating depression, anxiety, mood regulation, substance/alcohol use, and communication difficulties. I primarily use the treatment modalities of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, but establishing a therapeutic alliance is most important to start.

I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidality with adolescents (13+) and adults. I also identify as a queer and non-binary clinician, and my passion lies in serving the LGBTQIA+ community. I most commonly utilize narrative therapy, DBT, and motivational interviewing as my approaches to treatment, but I don't believe in "one size fits all" therapy. I am committed to making our therapeutic relationship feel safe and secure no matter what your needs are.

I enjoy listening to your narrative and find ways to create change.
My motto is “If it costs you your peace, it is too expensive”. You may be looking for ways to reduce fear, sadness, and trauma responses but are unsure where to start. You might also want to find a therapist willing to walk alongside your spiritual journey. I want to help you find that deep peace and help you find ways to continue working on that life.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
